As I’m coming to the end of my month long “30 years behind the chair” celebration, here is one last post….

As I am very grateful and thankful for my entire salon family and friends, MY family deserves the biggest thank you of all❤️
First, without the support of my husband Brad, none of this wonderful career would have been possible. He has taken this crazy ride with me from the beginning. We met in high school ( yes high school sweethearts), got married 25 years ago and started our family a couple years later. With working most nights, he was the one cooking dinner, doing homework, playing outside with the kids, running them to all sports practices and cheering them on from the stands. He made sure to keep me informed on how they were doing when I couldn’t be there myself. He is understanding when I come home at the end of the night “peopled out” and go straight to bed. He doesn’t complain when our weekends might include me going to work on Saturday morning. His sacrifices have not gone unnoticed. I’m very grateful for his support.
As my two children have never not known me as a hairdresser, they also have been very supportive. They have grown up with Mom not being there at night for homework, sports, and sometimes bedtime. When they were little, trying hard to play outside waiting until I got home from work. I loved the days that they were so excited to show me how they cleaned the house or helped with dinners. Addison has been a huge part of keeping me posting on Instagram and Facebook and always finding new products and trends. Joah has always been independent and not putting his needs on me. I’m so proud of the young adults they are becoming.
Our parents have also been a huge part of the support system I needed to continue in my career. They helped out with the kids when they were young, being the best cheering section at sporting events and always being there to help out with whatever we needed. The encouragement and support that they all gave me when starting Colin Rae Hair Studio allowed me the confidence to go for it!
Finally I would like to give a huge thank you for this wonderful community full of Amazing people! The clients that have followed me to wherever I was going over the last 30 years is so awesome to me. They have all been so supportive, caring, and encouraging.
I’ve worked very hard to be where I am today, still standing behind the chair, but without everyone in my life from the start of my career, it doesn’t look the same!

2022-current day

After being in Chilton for 14 years, the opportunity to return to New Holstein presented itself when Ashley Chaj took ownership of the former Heaven Scent Salon building in December of 2021.
Ashley asked me to be a big part of designing and styling the new space which is now The Beautique a hair salon llc. With a lot of hard work and many late nights along with a “Billion” texts of pictures and ideas, The Beautique opened its doors in February of 2022
Colin Rae Hair Studio along with SANS hair salon ( Ashley Chaj), Jill’s Hair Design ( Jill Winkler), and not in a new building but in a very new way, Heaven Scent Salon ( Pam Pirkov) had a new home. We strive to make a cohesive salon setting all while maintaining our own unique businesses. It has been a joy to work with these three ladies for the last 4 years. I’ve also had the pleasure to work with two other wonderful ladies Tanya Meyers ( Small Town Beauty) and Alexis Gilbert ( Studio 1422). Although the space in The Beautique didn’t quite work out for them, they will forever be a part of my story.❤️

Thank you Ashley for providing a beautiful salon for me to call home. I love that you went from a crazy little 13 years old client of mine ( I was only 19 😆), to the one I get to work side by side with almost every day. ❤️
I hope to call The Beautique my home for who knows ?… maybe another 30 years✂️❤️✂️

2008-2022: My new adventure - Colin Rae Hair Studio was born. ✂️✨🤍

In November of 2008, I took a big leap of faith and started my own business, Colin Rae Hair Studio. A former coworker, Kelly Mlada started a small salon in Chilton called Madison Style. She had mentioned in a newspaper article that she would consider renting the second chair to someone. I thought to myself, “I’m that someone!”

Even though it was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done, I was ready for the next step of my career. To all that know me, they know I’m always up for a good challenge.

Kelly and I worked side by side (literally) for the next 9 years in what i now call “the little Madison Style”. I love that little space. 🩷 It had a very calming and inviting presence about it, and who didn’t love being next-door to a coffee shop?!

In 2017, Kelly decided to grow the salon and invite more renters into what I now call “the big Madison Style”. While making the move, Ashley Chaj joined us opening SANS’ Hair Salon. And in 2021, Jill Winkler, owner of Jill’s Hair Design also joined us.

I’m extremely grateful to the clients that ventured to Chilton with me, the clients that found me there again, and all of the new clients that trusted to sit in my chair in Chilton for the first time.

I called Madison Style home until 2022, when Kelly retired from the hair industry. I will forever be thankful to work alongside Kelly for a second time. She made transitioning into owning my own business and enjoyable and easy one.

1996-2008 My first salon home where it all began: Hairs To You🤍✂️

In June of 1996, I had the great opportunity to be hired as a new hairstylist by Shiela Lackershire, owner of Hairs To You in New Holstein, where I worked alongside and learned from Shiela, and two other amazing stylists, Monica Schmitz and Kelly Mlada.

Over the next 12 years, I grew as a stylist, meeting wonderful clients and friends, many of whom still sit in my chair today.

I had the pleasure to work with other wonderful stylists; Rebecca Vetting, Amber Skiba, Sonny Schaar, Ashley Nader (Chaj), and Carrie Williams throughout my time at Hairs To You.

I said goodbye to Hairs To You in fall of 2008 to venture out on my own, starting Colin Rae Hair Studio. I will forver be grateful for Shiela and my Hairs To You family for the time i spent with them. I truly learned from the BEST! 🫶🏼
