What's the spookiest thing you've ever seen at a work site?

Our engineers were recently greeted at a site visit by messages saying things like "beware" and "turn back". They also encountered some other strange things, like old portrait paintings and a room full of toilets. You truly never know what to expect when going in the field!

It's ! This summer at e2, we've had 3 awesome interns that we want to show some appreciation for.

Teresa Rodrigues and Adriana Abby have been working out of our New London, CT office. Teresa is a rising senior at UMass Amherst and has been doing an excellent with job with detailing and calcs. She's always looking to lend a helping hand when she can! Adriana is entering her final year at the University of Rhode Island. She's been incredibly helpful to the team, working hard and getting things done quickly. Both girls have brought a great energy to the office!

Jonathan Viliott has been our Concord, MA office intern. He is also a rising senior a UMass Amherst. He's been making great progress in drafting and handling small design tasks. Jonathan has also been an excellent asset to the Concord golf team!

Our interns have all showcased immense talent and growth this summer. It's been an absolute pleasure to have them on board! We wish them the best of luck in their next year of studies, and are excited to see their careers bloom!

We couldn't have asked for better weather for the e2 Summer Outing! It was so great to get our Concord and New London offices together for the day.

Meet Corey Hollmann!

As the newly appointed Connecticut Studio Leader, Corey has taken on more of an oversight and leadership position. He’s managing the projects and schedules of the entire team, as opposed to just his own. He takes the time to learn the strengths and work styles of each team member, so he can properly delegate tasks and ensure efficiency. He also enacts quality checks and assurances, making sure we’re always sending out high quality designs. Corey ensures the work we put out is always consistent and that our team is properly communicating.

Throughout Corey’s time at e2, he’s been building relationships with clients. Now, as a main point of contact on projects, he can utilize and further build upon those relationships.

Corey has additionally taken on a mentorship role, as he facilitates and encourages the growth of our staff engineers, ensuring they’re well prepared to step up into more senior roles in the future. He also oversees and provides feedback throughout the lifecycle of a project, allowing him to see upcoming challenges, and make sure we’re staying on track. Corey’s also a facilitator of office culture, and tries his best to make e2 a place people are excited to work at!

We can’t wait to see how Corey continues to grow in this new role and we are so happy to have him at e2!

This Single-Family High-End Residential home in Greenwich, CT has been like one giant game of Tetris! The pieces are coming together and fitting perfectly. We've had to make way for major structural changes, including intertwining lots of bent moment frames to allow for vaulted ceilings and partial removal of intermediate floors.

As the World Cup Playoffs continue on, we've got soccer on our minds. We'd say the progress on the new performance center for the Boston Legacy Football Club is just as exciting as today's Semi-Final game!

At e2, we take on a lot of healthcare work. We recently caught up with Principal Scott Erricson to ask why he loves those projects, and here's what he had to say:

"I think the reason I enjoy the healthcare work so much is that every single project is unique in its challenges. Much of the work we do in these hospitals is in response and support of ongoing modernization and technological improvements aimed at advancing patient care. Most of these buildings we are working in are older structures with varying eras of construction types.

Many of the older hospitals are concrete framed with masonry bearing and/or infill walls. If it the building was framed with structural steel, it is typically a structural steel frame, encased in concrete for fireproofing goals and supporting heavy one-way concrete slab systems. These older framing systems can be heavy and less nimble when trying to make modifications for modernization.

Heating of the older structures was accomplished by means of steam and steam piping. Nowadays there are complex heating and cooling systems that occupy much of the space above the ceiling. Over time, these system improvements have been added to an already cluttered ceiling cavity that makes A.) Identifying structural systems difficult, let alone B.) Modifying existing structural systems near impossible.

Our jobs as structural engineers in these facilities has other complexities. Often, the system upgrades are located in areas where there is sensitivity to patient privacy, hospital functionality and the systems ability to respond to emergencies. For instance, projects in and around surgical suites is always a challenge. Interruption of surgical services is usually a non-starter on the User side. This is where e2 engineers employs creativity to solve the pressing structural issue. This is where a structural engineer, with practical experience in working in these facilities is vital to the success of a project.

When the goal is improving patient care and delivery of medical services to the community, e2 engineers is here to rise to that challenge."
