Join us for a special evening with filmmaker and artist ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ผ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐๐ฒฬ๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ [ ], bringing together three films that move between ethnography and fabulation, archival research and critical theory to reckon with the spectral lives of images and the histories of violence that continue to haunt them.
Weโll be screening ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (2020), ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (2023), and Dรฉodatโs newest work, ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (2026).
Across these works, Dรฉodat moves through colonial archives, personal genealogies, myth, dance, and landscape to trace the enduring imaginaries of slavery, colonialism, fascism, and Empire, while asking how histories erased or distorted by dominant narratives might be encountered otherwise.
Following the screening, Dรฉodat will be joined by writer, researcher, and film programmer ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ [ ] for a conversation around their shared interests in African and Afro-diasporic expressive cultures, aesthetic remembrance, and the politics of camera-based technologies.

Join us for a special screening and conversation with essay filmmaker ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ๐น๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐ป [.shackleton], kicking off our upcoming workshop weekend!
Weโll be screening two of Shackletonโs recent films: ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ (๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ), a documentary readymade that turns a routine camera test into an investigation of a mysterious mid-century Cadburyโs commercial preserved in family lore, alongside ๐ก๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, his ingenious account of the true crime documentary he tried and failed to make.
Winner of the NEXT Innovator Award at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, ๐ก๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ reconstructs Shackletonโs unrealized film beat by beat, using vacant Bay Area landscapes, stylized re-enactments and his own wry narration to turn an abandoned project into a playful critique of true crime and its familiar conventions.
Following the screening, Shackleton will be in conversation with David Osit [ ] about first-person filmmaking, documentary persona, and what becomes possible when a filmmakerโs own perspective and personality become part of the method. TIX at the ๐ IN BIO!

The evening emerges from Rinlandโs ongoing work on a book centered on Hirschโs graffiti made during Argentinaโs 1976โ83 military dictatorship, considering these inscriptions as political and artistic gestures within Hirschโs expansive practice across film, performance, photography, and public intervention.
For the program, Rinland will present a performance and reading from her developing research alongside a selection of Hirschโs films, drawing connections between her moving-image work and the marks, gestures, and interventions she made beyond the screen.
Together, weโll trace a broader history of political graffiti and ask what it means to make an image, leave a mark, or intervene in public space under conditions of repression. Rinland will be in conversation with filmmaker and artist
Come through for a close encounter with Narcisa Hirschโs extraordinary body ofwork, moving between cinema, performance, writing, and the street.

How do documentary makers continue to work critically, responsibly, and safely in a rapidly shifting political landscape, increasingly threatening to those organizing and documenting on the ground?
Presented as part of ๐๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ข๐ , join us for a special conversation bringing together filmmakers and collaborators ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐น ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฟ [Rachel Lauren Mueller] and ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐ถ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐, with radio producer and Radiolab creator ๐๐ฎ๐ฑ ๐๐ฏ๐๐บ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฑ [Jad Abumrad] to consider the practical and ethical questions facing political documentary in the United States today.
Using Mueller and Poitrasโ recent collaboration ๐๐๐๐ โ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐, documenting ICEโs occupation of Minneapolis, as a starting point, theyโll draw from their experiences across on-the-ground organizing, investigative film, journalism, data, sound, and nonfiction storytelling to ask how makers navigate access and risk, protect sources and collaborators, and safeguard their teams and materials.
Together, weโll think through the technical, ethical, and communal infrastructures that make rigorous and independent documentary work possible, and what it might take to strengthen them in a moment of heightened scrutiny.

[Kelly Sears] for a three-day workshop exploring what becomes possible when images are displaced, recast, cut up, and reassembled. Weโll think through the politics and aesthetics of reappropriation, approaching the image as raw material: flexible, unfixed, and available for transformation.
What can be revealed when an image is released from its original context? What happens when historical documents, institutional archives, family photographs, fragmented media, and the scraps of everyday visual culture are brought into collision? How might we turn a culture of surveillance and consumption into material for its own critique?
Through screenings, discussion, and experimentation, participants will explore how remix, animation, and transformation can unsettle the intended function of an image and generate new narratives, temporalities, and unexpected connections.
Sears will be joined by an incredible lineup of artists with distinctive approaches to reworking existing images: ๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ป [Bill Morrison] will delve into his recent work with surveillance materials; ๐๐ป๐๐ถ-๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐๐ ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐ผ๐ป will share how composite imagery can reframe the assumptions of mainstream media; and acclaimed photographer ๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐๐ต๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฒ [Keisha Scarville] will explore her iterative approach to reinterpretation and artistic reappropriation.
Come ready to cut up, reassemble, and reconsider the images that surround us, and leave with new ways of thinking about collage as both an aesthetic and political strategy.
