From broadcast television and cable to the explosion of websites which use video in newspapers, tutorials, promotion and entertainment. Video production skills are no longer solely the area of filmmakers but are applicable to many careers and pursuits, from business, science, marketing, criminal justice, journalism and medicine, among many others. The Video Production Program offers a broad range of technical and media studies courses that place emphasis on creative production, academic scholarship, and media literacy. Students take a core curriculum with courses in the history of film and video, journalism, new media, critical studies, and intensive video production. Our program prepares students to be original independent media makers and provides them with diverse production and analytical skills that can be applied to varied careers in an ever-changing media landscape. The Video Program faculty consists of internationally renowned artists with extensive professional and industry experience in television, film, and video art. Within the major, students specialize in either narrative or documentary production and benefit from small classes where they are offered close guidance and mentorship by teachers who work actively in the field
Students in the Video Program utilize state of the art professional HD video cameras, location lighting equipment and sound recording equipment. Editing facilities consist of non-linear digital editing labs with Final Cut Pro editing software and Macintosh computer systems. As the field constantly changes and expands, the Video Program continues to update and upgrade its equipment to reflect what is happening in the professional workplace. Our students have the opportunity to gain essential practical experience and professional contacts through the internship program which has direct access to a vast assortment of television, film, and multi-media production companies in northern New Jersey and the New York metropolitan region.
Rutgers Newark Video Students Produce Six Documentary Portraits on Newark Muslims
The documentary class students at the Arts, Culture and Media Department’s Video Program are proud to present a series of six short video portraits on Newark Muslims.
The films will be part of the Muslim Voices program at the Newark Museum on December 3, from 12PM to 5 PM.
Produced in collaboration with Dr. Zain Abdullah ( Project Director), Temple University Professor of Islamic Studies. The videos will be part of an afternoon of short films, stage actor readings and performances that reflect the voices of Muslims in Newark.
The event is co-sponsored by the Newark 350 Celebration, the Newark Museum, and the African American Studies & African Studies Dept. of Rutgers-Newark.

This short video was made as part of a Narrative Video class at the Video Program. All students were given the same sheet of dialogue with no action description ( Neutral Scene) and they had to create a story based on just a few dialogue lines. Each video was completely different.
