Greetings my people. This is in my backyard.
Pumpkin is one of those plants where everything is useful - the flesh, seeds, and leaves.

*1. PUMPKIN FLESH (the fruit itself)*
- *Low calorie, high fiber* - good for weight loss and blood sugar control
- *High in Vitamin A (beta-carotene)* - excellent for eye health, immune system, skin
- *Vitamin C, potassium, magnesium* - helps blood pressure and heart
- *Antioxidants* - beta-carotene and other compounds reduce inflammation
- *Gut health* - soluble fiber feeds good bacteria and prevents constipation

*2. PUMPKIN SEEDS (pepitas)*
- *Very nutrient-dense* - magnesium, zinc, iron, phosphorus, healthy fats
- *Heart health* - unsaturated fats, magnesium, and antioxidants help lower blood pressure and cholesterol
- *Prostate & bladder health* - zinc and compounds in seeds traditionally used for prostate health in men
- *Better sleep & mood* - contains tryptophan and magnesium
- *Anti-parasite & anti-inflammatory* - traditionally used to help with intestinal worms
- *Blood sugar control* - magnesium + fiber + healthy fats

Eat them raw, roasted, or ground. A small handful (1 oz / 28g) is enough.

*3. PUMPKIN LEAVES (ugwu, ugu, or pumpkin greens)*
Very common in West African and Asian diets.
- *Highest in iron* - of the three parts, leaves have the most iron, helps prevent anemia
- *Rich in calcium, vitamins K, A, C* - for bones, blood clotting, immunity
- *High protein for a leaf* - more protein than many greens
- *Fiber* - good for digestion
- *Low calorie* - supports weight management

Cook them like spinach - boil or sautΓ© to reduce oxalates. Often eaten in soup with tomato, onion, and fish/meat.

*How to use them together:*
Leaves as vegetable side, flesh as soup / stew / roasted, seeds as snack - you get fiber + vitamins from flesh, minerals + healthy fats from seeds, and iron + calcium from leaves.

If you have kidney problems, gout, or take blood thinners, eat in moderation and talk to your doctor because leaves are high in vitamin K and potassium.

Happy Labor day Everyone. Gifting can be very fulfilling. Kids receiving school bags stuffed with books and other didactic items. You work hard, others donate to you and you share your hard earned sweat with others and feel happy especially when you know those receiving are really in need.

Good or bad?
Plantain flowers (the large purple bud at the end of a plantain bunch, called vazhaipoo / puso ng saging) are very nutritious β€” it's eaten a lot in South Indian, Filipino, and West African cooking.

*Per 100g of raw plantain flower, approx:*

- *Calories:* 45-55 kcal
- *Water:* ∼86%
- *Protein:* 1.5 - 2 g
- *Fiber:* 5 - 6 g (very high)
- *Fat:* 0.5 - 0.8 g
- *Carbs:* 6 - 9 g
- *Iron:* 1.5 - 2.5 mg (good for a veg)
- *Calcium:* 50-60 mg
- *Potassium:* 500-550 mg
- *Magnesium:* 60-70 mg
- *Zinc & Copper:* small amounts
- *Vitamin C, E, A, K:* modest amounts
- *Antioxidants:* flavonoids, tannins, saponins

*Why people eat them:*

1. *Blood sugar:* High fiber + low glycemic, helps blunt sugar spikes
2. *Anemia / Women's health:* Iron, plus traditionally used to ease heavy periods - not proven but rich in nutrients that help
3. *Digestion:* Soluble/insoluble fiber helps gut and constipation
4. *Heart:* Potassium helps blood pressure, antioxidants help cholesterol
5. *Lactation:* In Ayurveda, it's used to support breast milk - likely due to galactagogue compounds and minerals

*Things to know:*

- Must be cleaned properly - the sticky sap is bitter. Remove the hard stamen and thin plastic-like sepal inside each floret, soak in lemon water or buttermilk water to prevent blackening and reduce bitterness.
- Can cause stomach upset if eaten raw in large amounts - always blanched or cooked.
- If you have banana/plantain allergy or are on blood thinners, eat in moderation.

Wellness Tribe πŸ₯° let’s talk facts, not fear…

HIV symptoms can be very misleading, especially in the early stages. Many women may not notice anything at all, which is why testing remains the only reliable way to know your status.

πŸ“Œ Early stage (2–4 weeks after exposure)
Some women may experience flu-like symptoms known as acute HIV infection:
β€’ Fever
β€’ Fatigue or extreme tiredness
β€’ Sore throat
β€’ Rash (often on the chest, face, or back)
β€’ Swollen lymph nodes (neck, armpit, groin)
β€’ Headache
β€’ Muscle and joint pain
β€’ Night sweats

πŸ‘‰ These symptoms often disappear after a short time and can easily be mistaken for malaria, typhoid, or flu.

πŸ“Œ Later stage (if untreated)
As the immune system weakens over time, symptoms may include:
β€’ Frequent infections (vaginal infections, UTIs, skin infections)
β€’ Unexplained weight loss
β€’ Persistent fever
β€’ Long-lasting fatigue
β€’ Mouth ulcers or white patches in the mouth
β€’ Irregular or recurrent vaginal infections
β€’ Persistent diarrhea

πŸ“Œ Important reality check
β€’ You cannot confirm HIV through symptoms alone
β€’ Many people live for years without any symptoms
β€’ The only way to know your status is through an HIV test

πŸ“Œ What to do if there was risk exposure
If you had unprotected s*x, condom breakage, or other risk exposure:
β€’ Get an HIV test as soon as possible
β€’ If within 72 hours, seek PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) immediately
β€’ Repeat testing after the window period (6 weeks to 3 months depending on test type)

πŸ“Œ Final reminder
Early testing = early protection
Knowing your status is an act of care for yourself and your partner.

πŸ‘‰ Wellness Tribe πŸ₯° HIV is still on the rise, so protect yourself and go for regular testing πŸ‘€

Prevention is key, don’t wait for symptoms before checking your status.

πŸŒ… Morning Habits That Help Keep Blood Sugar Stable Naturally

Your morning routine can influence your blood sugar levels for the rest of the day. Simple healthy habits can improve insulin sensitivity, reduce glucose spikes, and support overall metabolic health.

βœ… 1. πŸ₯š Choose Protein Before Sugar
Starting your day with protein-rich foods such as eggs, yogurt, beans, nuts, or oats can help slow glucose absorption and keep you feeling full for longer.

βœ… 2. πŸ’§ Drink Water First Thing in the Morning
After hours of sleep, your body becomes mildly dehydrated. A glass of water on waking helps support hydration and healthy body functions.

βœ… 3. πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ Take a 10–20 Minute Morning Walk
Light exercise in the morning helps your muscles use glucose more effectively and improves insulin sensitivity.

βœ… 4. β˜€οΈ Get Some Morning Sunlight
Exposure to natural sunlight helps regulate your body clock, sleep patterns, and hormones involved in blood sugar regulation.

βœ… 5. 🍽️ Don't Skip Breakfast (For Most People)
Many people, especially those with insulin resistance or diabetes, may achieve better blood sugar control when they eat a balanced breakfast containing protein, fiber, and healthy fats.

βœ… 6. 🍡 Limit Sugary Tea and Coffee
Adding plenty of sugar to your drinks can cause blood sugar spikes and may increase cravings later in the day.

βœ… 7. 😴 Maintain Good Sleep Habits
Poor sleep can reduce insulin sensitivity and make blood sugar more difficult to control the following day.

βœ… 8. 🧘 Start the Day With Less Stress
Stress hormones such as cortisol can raise blood sugar levels. Taking a few minutes for prayer, meditation, deep breathing, or quiet reflection may help.

🩸 How Do You Know If Your Blood Sugar Is Under Control?

The only reliable way to know if your blood sugar is well controlled is through regular monitoring. Feeling well does not always mean your glucose levels are normal.

βœ”οΈ Check your blood sugar with a glucometer if you have diabetes.

βœ”οΈ Have your HbA1c tested every few months. This test reflects your average blood sugar level over the previous 2–3 months.

βœ”οΈ Attend regular medical check-ups to assess your blood sugar, blood pressure, kidney function, and overall health.

πŸ“Œ Remember: Diabetes can silently damage the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart long before symptoms appear. Regular monitoring helps detect problems early and keeps you on track.

🧠 Doctor's Note:
Keeping blood sugar stable is about more than just reducing sugar intake. Sleep, hydration, stress levels, physical activity, and food choices all play important roles.

πŸ“Œ These habits can support healthy blood sugar control but should not replace prescribed medications or medical advice for people living with diabetes.
