April photo dump.

Some of the most memorable and meaningful experiences occurred where photography was explicitly prohibited

Closing out an intense month of travel the way I started it: by wandering past the piano at Newark Airport and plopping down to do a little ambient reflection through covering my ass with whole notes and letting things fall out of me before I can think about them.

From there it’s on me to connect the dots as they fall.

Thank you to everyone I spent time with in April. Y’all gave me so much to think about and so many experiences.

An exercise in vulnerability by way of some airport piano ruminations at 5am.

I am not a pianist in any practical sense of the term, but I know enough about melody and cadence while improvising to better allow a mistake to open new moods rather than ruin them.

The end result of my hunt and peck piano playing is usually some kind of slow, deliberate, but often clumsy tone poem and in this case I think the airport din is equally part of the incidental music’s performance.

at it again! Posting about it the first time is how I heard about what was happening in Wisconsin, so I’m hoping that another post might yield more insights.

I really do not take any joy in going this route.

Thank you for participating in the Blood Drive.

Congratulations to Hunter!

Blood Drive 35 participants!

The drawing will be happening today at 2pm eastern on Instagram. I will be posting the winner on both platforms and contacting them independently as well, but if you want to follow along tune in at bloodandsound!

When I set out to do this raffle I had a few goals in mind:

Raise money
Promote bleeding disorder awareness
Set a precedent to allow for future opportunities to bring other music companies into the fold in support of the arts in the BDC.

I am proud to say I have accomplished all 3 of these goals handily and created an impact that extends beyond simply the raffle and into my own advocacy and interactions in a way I can not proper describe.

I could not have done this without your support and of course the support of my friends at Reverend.

It’s an honor to be part of their artist roster and to bleed the charge on some interesting advocacy ideas.

I’ll see yall live real soon

36 got off to profoundly humbling and challenging start with the passing of an incredibly important friend and the personal and professional situations in the wake of this tragedy that forced me to stand on who I fundamentally am. I learned myself capable of far more backbone and dignity in the face of these challenges than I may have thought myself capable of, and on the heels of these situations and the momentum of my warpath for my physical health I was able to remain creative. I published a remixed EP, a second EP of covers and instrumental guitar, and found my way to Nashville to record an album’s worth of material in addition to what I have been working on at home. I also produced, recorded, and performed with others while navigating all of that while enjoying additional pro audio work.

6 months ago I was fasting in a subzero Minnesota on the eve of my elbow surgery. There was no way I could pass up having it on my half birthday, and it represented a significant amount of effort and strategizing to find myself at the best hospital in the country with the best elbow surgeon in the world and simply because the previous 5 or 6 surgeons I had spoken to saw me as above their ability. After 20 years of elbow issues with little to show for my efforts beyond a career built on desperation and spite until I went under Dr. Morrey’s knife and it’s not much of a stretch to consider getting myself to that moment as one of the most significant accomplishments of my life if not the most significant to date.

I savor my passions with deeper appreciation and strive to bring higher levels of quality and ability to everything I strive to do. My inner life is richer and possesses a higher degree of quiet joy and fulfillment than I could have ever imagined for myself and for that I am grateful.

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in making 36 into a year of significant progress and perspective.

Been spending some time mending and perhaps haven’t communicated much as an artist l, but here’s some bullet points

3 months ago I went to the and had about 20 years of built up gunk and gravel removed from my elbow in an effort to reduce pain/inflammation and smooth out the arc of the joint.

The gunk was old blood and tainted synovial lining.
The gravel was a mixture of old, calcified blood, and fragments of bone and cartilage from my elbow that wore away over years of hemophilic episodes.

I got this appointment after 4 or 5 other surgeons in my home state said they could not improve my quality of life, and worked tirelessly to get this squared away once I had a glimpse of any solution.

I’m not fixed, but I’m way better than I’ve been in a long time and I’m excited to continue testing my new capabilities

Life is full of fun happenstance sometimes.

This photo was taken by a Welshman visiting his son and I got to know the pair shortly after they told me they had taken the photo. He said the composition between myself and was beautiful.

I love accents and people from other countries in general and was grateful for a conversation that was all at once cheeky and and surprisingly affirming and validating on all sides.
