KP Tech
The funny, strange, and true side of technology. Odd gadgets, misbehaving AI, and tech news too strange to make up. None of that is really what kp. kp.
Keith spent 30+ years in marketing and technology before any of this. In 1997 he founded JASE Group, a creative advertising and technology agency, and ran it as CEO until selling the company in 2018 β guiding clients through million-dollar growth along the way. From 2016 to 2020, he served as a Virginia Governor-appointed Commissioner on the Transportation District Commission of Hampton Roads, Hampton Roads Transit's governing board. More recently, he leads marketing for Ghent Eats, a Norfolk, Virginia restaurant group behind Cogans Pizza Ghent, Cogans Pizza North, Craft on Colley, and Hank's Filling Station. is about, though. Keith is a husband, a father of two daughters, and a grandfather of three β and family comes before all of it. exists because the same questions kept showing up at the dinner table and in text messages from his own parents: is this text a scam, is this screen-time limit reasonable, is this AI tool actually worth paying for. Three decades of building and marketing real businesses turned into a habit of cutting through noise to find the actual answer β this is that same habit, aimed at the questions his own family and friends keep asking him.

Why does a hormone monitor look like an egg? No good reason, and that's exactly what makes it funny. It's a real $249 device that reads four reproductive hormones from a urine sample in 16 minutes. It's FDA-registered. It's also shaped like something a hen laid.

Consumer Reports tested 15 GPS trackers and kids' smartwatches in 2026, finding real gaps in privacy policies and default settings. The Apple Watch SE 3 and Garmin Bounce scored well, but "made for kids" branding doesn't guarantee better data protection. COPPA sets a legal floor, not a product guarantee: https://keithparnell.com/family-tech/gps-watch-kid/

Is that trash-compactor-looking robot everyone's posting actually a security camera in disguise? Yes. It follows you around the yard, hauls your gear, and quietly patrols your property with a camera built in. It's called the W1.

Since January 2026, some cyber insurers exclude AI-generated deepfake fraud from standard coverage, while others added it as a covered risk. A fake CEO voice tricking your bookkeeper into a wire transfer could be covered or a total loss. Here's what changed and the one question to ask your broker: https://keithparnell.com/smb-stack/cyber-insurance-deepfake/

Is there really an AI panda living with someone's grandparent and reporting back to the family? Yes. It's called An'An, it's soft and handcrafted, and it won a CES Innovation Award. It's also very much paying attention.

A $2,000 companion robot with flapping arms and a furry neck that extends two feet to peek over your couch. Its memories live in a removable heart, so if the body breaks, the pet gets a transplant instead of a funeral. Huh? https://keithparnell.com/ollobot-personality/

Does a lollipop that plays music through your jaw actually work? Yes, and it's real, not a CES gimmick concept. Bite down and the vibrations hit your inner ear straight through your teeth. No earbuds involved at all.

This week on kp Tech: A camera now hangs off some people's toilets, tracking frequency, texture, and volume, then sending gut-health insights to an app. It's $340 plus $6 a month, but nobody's fully explained where the photos actually go. The privacy answers are lagging behind the tech Full stories: https://keithparnell.com/

This week on kp Tech: The W1 is a real WALL-E lookalike robot that follows you outside, hauls your camping gear, and quietly patrols your property with a security camera built in. Headlines say $4,999. Most sources actually say $5,599. Either way, it's a lot to look nostalgic | Meet An'An, a soft, handcrafted panda robot with over ten sensor suites that learns a person's voice and touch habits over months and can flag mood changes to clinicians. It won a CES Innovation Award. It's sweet. It's also, quietly, keeping tabs on Grandma. Still very weird! Full stories: https://keithparnell.com/

This week on kp Tech: Lollipop Star bites down into a real song, transmitted through your teeth via bone conduction, no earbuds involved. Peach is Ice Spice, blueberry is Akon, lime is Armani White. Reviewers say the sound's rough, but the sensation is genuinely wild | A device that tracks your reproductive hormones is shaped like an egg, the exact thing your ovaries are known for producing. It's real, it's $249, it's FDA-registered, and the coincidence is either genius branding or nobody thought about it Full stories: https://keithparnell.com/
