Ste’ce used to put the H in ADHD at the doctor’s office. 😂
Hanging off the light fixtures and everything. 😮‍💨

Now he just sits, stims and waits patiently.

I almost took a nap it was so peaceful. 😌😂

Ste’ce has plans today, so naturally he was ready to get dressed at 8am. 😂

No time yet, no timer, just gotta wait. He accepted it, gave me a 👍🏽 and went right back to making breakfast.

THAT is progress. 👏🏽💜

I interrupt Ste’ce on purpose sometimes so he can practice tolerating interruptions.

A couple months ago, this could’ve caused a meltdown. Now? He looks a lil perturbed 😂 but can refocus and answer my questions.

That’s progress. 💜

Right before I took this picture, Ste’ce said 👨🏽‍💻 “I am nice” on his tablet. 🥹

I’ve realized that’s his way of saying “I look handsome.” Probably because I’m always telling him he looks nice. 😂

I love how he’s created his own little AAC lingo. “I am nice” = I’m looking good today. 😂 And yes sir, you do look nice. 💜

Ste’ce playing around like he was about to elope...

Me: 🤨

Also me remembering we’re in a library: ^”Boy, ^if ^you ^don’t...” 😭😂

Gotta fuss respectfully in public 😂

One of my favorite parts of taking Ste’ce to the library is seeing what he picks 📚💜

This trip: acrylic painting, bicycles, and-
because he is still Ste’ce-a cookbook 😂 This
time he went with a Hispanic food cookbook.

I love getting these little glimpses into what catches his interest.

A little look at Ste’ce’s morning routine before day program ☀️

And look at him actually waving bye to me now 😭💜 A few weeks ago that van would pull up and he was GONE. Meanwhile I’d be standing there talking about “bye Ste’ce!” to the air 😭

The way he stopped and stared us down like one of us was supposed to come get that firewood. 😭😂

No sir. Everybody contributes on this camping trip. Keep walking. 🪵🏕️

Camping can be a LOT of work, especially when you’re also supporting someone with special needs.

We go every year, and usually I’m doing double duty-camping AND taking care of Ste’ce. But over the years, l’ve been teaching him how to help little by little.

This trip felt different. 🥹He helped with the
tent, carried firewood and actually took some of the work off me and my sister. Did he complain a lil bit? Absolutely.
But he still did it.

It honestly felt like he matured overnight.

So if you’ve been wanting to take your autistic loved one camping but you’re worried about how much work it’ll be, start small. Teach what you can. Let them participate. And remember that what they need help with today might not always be what they need help with tomorrow. 💜

This camping trip felt a little different.

Ste’ce helped put up the tent, carried firewood and actually contributed this time. We had such a good time. 🥹💜🏕️
