Parkside Elementary Music Class

We had a special day in 3rd grade today as we welcomed ISU Music Professor Dr. Lewis! She shared not only her musical talents on the viola with us, she read us a story and helped connect the emotions of the characters to the music she was plaoying!

We were fortunate again to host a visit by the fabulous Illinois State University String Project last week! The String Project is a program through ISU that teaches students 3rd grade and older to play a string instrument. Get your student an early start on playing an instrument!

WOW what a great few days of performance! It may be summer, but Parkside’s Penguins are still out singing, dancing, acting, and making people smile!

Congrats to all who performed with ISU String Project, Community Players Theatre, Music Connections Foundation, and the Town of Normal theater camp!

We loved seeing all the former Parkside Penguins rocking out on some smokin jazz. Thanks to Mr. Archer and the band, and special thanks to Mrs. Bolton on her retirement!

4th grade families!

This is the culminating event in our instrument unit. Your student has the opportunity to come in and try up to four different instruments before deciding whether to join orchestra or band in fifth grade.

The event is free and open to all fourth grade students in Unit 5. We’d love to see every student attend this event and play an instrument next year.

Our friends at Normal Community High School are hosting a Meet and Greet designed for younger children for their upcoming performance of THe Little Mermaid. Kids can meet the characters and enjoy a shorter version of the show geared towards audience members with shorter attention spans. Check it out!

In the 1890 opera Prince Igor, the mighty prince assembles an army and is preparing to depart for battle when an unexpected Solar Eclipse occurs. The army is suddenly unsure of its prospects but the prince sees it as a positive sign and continues plans.

Upon completion of the eclipse, the army and its entourage sings Glory, Glory to the Radiant Sun.
