University Housing Services (UHS) serves as the model for developing inclusive living-learning environments in which students prepare to serve the world in a positive and transformative ways. It doesn't matter where you live on-campus, or if you are a new or returning student to Illinois State,

One of the most unique features of Watterson Towers is its elevator system. Instead of stopping on every floor, the elevators stop at designated "house" floors. From there, residents use a short staircase to reach their room floor.

Why? This design helps move thousands of students through one of the tallest residence halls in the world more efficiently.

It might feel a little different at first, but after a couple of days, you'll be navigating Watterson like a pro.

Already thinking about sending packages to your residence hall? Hold off just a little longer. Please wait until after you've moved in to have packages delivered to campus.

Before ordering, make sure you use the correct mailing address for your residence hall and include your full name exactly as it appears in your Housing and Dining Portal. This helps us process and deliver your mail and packages as quickly as possible.

A few quick tips:
• Include your full name on every shipment
• Watch your Illinois State email for package pickup notifications
• During Move-In and the first few weeks of the semester, package processing may take a little longer due to high volume
• Be sure to review residence hall policies before shipping items to campus.
• DoorDash, Uber Eats, and other food delivery services: To help Move-In run smoothly, please avoid scheduling food deliveries near residence halls. Throughout the academic year, students should meet delivery drivers outside their residence hall. Residence hall front desks cannot accept, store, or be responsible for food deliveries that are left unattended.

Laundry tip from UHS!

A few quick tips can help keep your clothes clean and the machines running smoothly:

• Don't overload washers or dryers. Two medium loads work better than one oversized load.
• Use only a small amount of detergent. High-efficiency machines need less than you think.
• Clean the lint trap before using the dryer.
• Leave comforters and other oversized items for a laundromat, as they can damage residence hall machines.
• If a machine isn't working, submit a work order using the information posted directly on the machine.

A little laundry care goes a long way toward keeping our facilities running for everyone. Happy washing!

Move-In Week is almost here, Redbirds!

Getting ready to move into University Housing? A little planning can make your day much easier.

Our top Move-In tips:
1. Pack with reusable moving bags to make carrying and storage easier.
2. Wear comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes. Move-In happens rain or shine.
3. Stock up on toiletries, snacks, and essentials before arriving.
4. Bring family and friends to help carry, unpack, and set up.
5. Pack plenty of patience. Traffic, elevators, and check-in lines are all part of the experience, but we'll help you every step of the way. If you are stuck in traffic, do not worry!

A reminder: Please do not bring pets to Move-In unless they are approved assistance animals living with the resident.

Move-In is just 20 days away! We've rounded up answers to some of the questions we're hearing most often, from loft kits to Move-In appointments. Take a look below and get ready for August 11-15.

Q: "I see beds labeled A1, A2, etc. What does that mean?"
A: Those labels are only used in our housing system. Beds are not labeled in your room, and roommates can decide which bed they would like to use when they arrive.

Q: "How do I get a loft kit?"
A: Loft kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis during Move-In week at all residence hall locations. Loft kits are not needed in Cardinal Court.
A loft kit is only required if you want to raise your bed higher than the standard lofting height. If you plan to junior loft your bed (for example, to place your dresser or mini fridge underneath), you will not need a loft kit.
We'll also have mallets available at no cost, but you're welcome to bring your own for convenience.

Q: "What's the best way to set up my room?"
A: Watterson triple rooms are already arranged and ready for move-in. For all other room types, how you arrange the space is completely up to you and your roommate(s). Make it your own!

Q: "How do I find my Move-In appointment?"
A: All students must select their Move-In date and time through the Housing and Dining Portal. Even if someone else selected your room during Room Selection, you are still responsible for choosing your own Move-In appointment.

Q: "When is Move-In 2026?"
A: Move-In takes place August 11–15, and we're excited to welcome you to campus in just 20 days!
