Postpartum bleeding is expected after birth… but knowing what’s normal and what’s a warning sign can make all the difference. 🤍

After delivery, your body is working hard to heal. Bleeding (lochia) is a normal part of the process as your uterus contracts and sheds the extra blood and tissue from pregnancy. It is often heaviest in the first few days, then should gradually become lighter over time.

🚩 Call your provider or midwife if:
• Your bleeding is getting heavier instead of lighter
• You are passing large clots
• You have worsening pain, fever, dizziness, or feel unwell

🚨 Seek emergency care if:
• You are soaking through a pad in an hour or less
• You have heavy, continuous bleeding
• You feel faint, weak, confused, or short of breath

Postpartum hemorrhage can happen after birth, and sometimes after you’ve already gone home. Knowing the signs helps you get the care you need quickly.

Your postpartum recovery matters just as much as your pregnancy and birth. 🤍 If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and reach out.

🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIRSTEN!!! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating someone who is such an incredible part of our Cache Valley Birth Center family! 💕

Kirsten wears SO many hats for us—lactation consultant, RN, birth assistant, and honestly, so much more. She is the kind of person who always goes above and beyond. All while she is in midwifery school herself!!

Her clinical skills are exceptional, but what makes Kirsten truly special is the way she notices the little things. She anticipates what families need, makes thoughtful details feel effortless, and has a gift for making each family’s experience feel personal and special. 🥹 she makes everyone feel like she is their friend.

I appreciate Kirsten more than I can say. I feel incredibly lucky to have her on our team and to know that our families are in such capable, caring hands when she is there. ❤️

Please help us wish Kirsten the happiest birthday! We love you, Kirsten! 🥳🎂💐

Breast milk is so much more than nutrition. 🤍

It’s a dynamic, living substance that changes with your baby and contains hundreds of different components that support growth, development, digestion, and immune function.

4 things that make breast milk pretty incredible:

1️⃣ It changes as your baby grows.
2️⃣ It contains antibodies and immune cells that help protect your baby.
3️⃣ It follows daily rhythms, with compounds like melatonin varying throughout the day.
4️⃣ It changes during a feeding, with milk generally becoming higher in fat as the feed progresses.

And this is just the beginning. There is still so much we’re learning about human milk and the incredible relationship between breastfeeding and the developing newborn.

Save this for later and send it to an expecting mama! 🤍

Come with me to my 6-week postpartum visit 🤍

The 6-week checkup is about so much more than just being “cleared” after birth. It’s a chance to check in on how you’re healing and how you’re doing as a whole.

Some things we may talk about at a postpartum visit:
• Bleeding + return of your period
• Breastfeeding or feeding concerns
• Pelvic floor symptoms, leaking, pain or pressure
• Healing from tearing, stitches or a C-section
• Mental health + postpartum depression/anxiety
• Sleep, recovery + overall wellbeing
• S*x + discomfort with in*******se
• Birth control + future pregnancy plans
• Any questions or concerns since delivery

At my visit, I also chose to have a Mirena IUD placed. I took ibuprofen beforehand to help with cramping. We also offer nitrous oxide “laughing gas” if you want that during the procedure.

And remember—the “6-week visit” doesn’t mean you have to wait 6 weeks to bring up a concern. Postpartum care starts as soon as your baby is born. 🤍

As a midwife AND a newly postpartum mom, I think we need to talk about maternal recovery just as much as we talk about the baby. 🫶🏻

We are SO excited to announce a new monthly tradition at Cache Valley Birth Center! 🤍

We’ve teamed up with the incredibly talented Real Pressed Flower Jewelry to gift one of our expecting mamas a beautiful birth flower ring each month. 🌸💍 (Have you seen Mauris stuff?? SHES AMAZING! And she is SUNSHINE!)

And the best part?

You don’t have to enter. You don’t have to tag anyone. You don’t have to follow a bunch of accounts.

If you are a pregnant patient at Cache Valley Birth Center during that month, you’re automatically entered. 🤍

🌿 SEPTEMBER’S FLOWER: THE ASTER 🌿

The aster is September’s birth flower, and its name comes from the Greek word for “star.” ⭐️

Asters are traditionally associated with love, wisdom, patience, faith, and hope—such beautiful reminders for the journey into motherhood.

There’s something especially meaningful about giving a mama a little reminder of the baby she carried and the season of life she was in. A piece she can wear long after those tiny kicks, growing bellies, and newborn days have passed. 🤍

And just LOOK at this gorgeous aster ring from Real Pressed Flower Jewelry. 😍

Each month, we’ll choose one of our expecting moms to receive that month’s birth flower ring as a little gift from our birth center family.

Because becoming a mother deserves to be celebrated—not just on the day your baby arrives, but throughout the entire journey. 🌿

September mamas, this one is for you. And the momma who won is SO DESERVING. We are soo proud of how she fought for her babe! Real Pressed Flower Jewelry

Thank you, Real Pressed Flower Jewelry, for helping us celebrate our moms in such a beautiful and meaningful way. 🤍

Follow along as we reveal next month’s birth flower! 🌸

Please sign up for our very own MA (Susan’s) family blood drive on October 9th! Each time you donate, you can save up to 3 lives!
Lives like HER kids who don’t have what they need to stop bleeding when they start. HER Scarlett who wouldn’t be here without people donating their blood, it has saved her life many, many times. Your donation takes minutes and can keep these people alive and with their families! • It means more to those of us on the receiving end than you will ever understand. If the satisfaction of being a hero isn’t enough, the Red Cross will also give you a $15 gift card for donating! We would LOVE to see you there! Open to anyone 16 and older! To sign up:

🎉 Happy Birthday to the wonderful woman who is the face of our Clinic! 🎂💕

Every day, she is the first smiling face our patients see when they walk through the door, and she has a way of making everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and right at home.

She is happy, kind, incredibly thorough, and always willing to go the extra mile. She pays attention to the little details, keeps everything running smoothly, and genuinely cares about every person who walks through our doors. And it shows — our patients absolutely LOVE her! ❤️

We are so lucky to have someone who brings so much warmth and positivity to our team. She represents our Clinic so beautifully and helps create the experience we want every patient to have from the moment they arrive.

Please help us wish her the HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY! 🥳🎈 We hope you feel as appreciated and loved today as you make everyone else feel every day!

Happy Birthday! We are so grateful for you! 💕
