Balance
…and more

The same can be said for floral design. A living canvas intended to be thoughtfully composed to best express an intended story. More than just simply placing flowers in a vase there is always more behind a Three Roots design than meets the eye.

Inspired by the sun-drenched colors of late July this series of pieces call mind the rich chroma hues available in the height of summertime. Playing with height, texture and size the resulting piece is richly layered with details to linger over.

Hopefully some additional flower design days will be in sight soon…

There is a reason is color palette is a staple here at Three Roots. Effortlessly cohesive, subtle with a hint of chroma depth, and sourceable from American farms nearly all year round!

But also…what is not to like about peonies and garden roses in the sweet sunshine of June?

There are only TWO weddings remaining this season and we cannot wait to share their floral stories with you. Both green and white, both Ridgefield based and both wrapped in personal details to help their wedding days shine.

I think it is easy to get stuck in time loops. My most frequented is nestled between a creek and an air field on Miry Brook Rd. in Danbury, CT.

After my tenure in Catholic school I was shipped off to Wooster for a season of expansive learning, expression and general mischief. (My teachers tell me I was a delight.) As a frightful 8th grader I was quickly assumed into the safety of my new school and the abundant memories from this period of my life still flow with wonderful delight.

My start in floristry began as a senior in high school when I pursued my passion through an independent study my final year. After a myriad of classes obsessing over botanical forms through gesso, chicken wire, pastel, and oil ink I finally had a chance to work with the real deal! The early stages of my belief that I could run a floral studio stemmed from my teacher’s urging that I could create art for myself for as long as I dared to believe.

I graduated high school nearly 15 years ago but every now and again I have a chance to orbit back into Wooster’s radial pull and this fall is one of those cherished opportunities. As the school celebrates 100 years of storied teaching and learning I will be back on campus slinging blooms and bringing a bit of my floral touch to the festivities.

In a large part I owe my creative voice to these halls and the one of a kind teachers introduced to me along the way. The creative freedom afforded to me early on in my creative development left an enduring mark I continue to carry to this day.

I’m thankful for the lessons Wooster taught me and that even after all of my mayhem they are still willing to have me back 🌸

My sister and I spent nearly 10 school years sharing a car ride either to or from school. My senior year of high school we daily packed into my mom’s beetle to traverse route 7 together to our respective schools.

In the early mornings before religion classes, daily lectures and teenage distress we would fight over the music in the car. We prayed days and each time it was my turn I would play Animal Collective proud to have one more opportunity to pester my little sister.

As elementary school students we were told by our shared art teacher that one day our fighting would cease and we would be glad to have one another in our lives. She could almost guarantee that time would come when I was old enough for my license. We shunned her words and proclaimed her prophecy unlikely but in her wisdom (because art teachers have plenty) her words sprung to life.

Last Sunday I had the immense privilege of crafting my sister her own wedding bouquet and a piece of floral art has never been so i@porting to my heart. I mean, how can one possible wrap 28 years of memories into a single hand toed bouquet? As I designed Sarah’s piece memories of all sorts of sisterly delights filled my head and it took nearly an hour to finally sort out her design.

I have plenty more thoughts to share and a well of words to expound but for now a few hurried snapshots of the bridal bouquet always destined for Sarah.

Heading into the final days of summer with dahlias on my mind.

This weekend I craft the most important bouquet of my career as I compose an ethereal composition for my little sister. Hyper local blooms intertwined with American grown beauties it is sure to be a delight!

A moody color palette of blues and purples with pops of cream. I am certainly planning to go over the top for this one and I cannot wait to share all of the delights we have planned!
