Our philosophy is that security does not have to be difficult or expensive and STOP products are designed to provide our clients with the peace of mind that true security brings, for a price that cannot be matched. We understand that because portable electronic devices are specifically designed to travel with us, they are uniquely vulnerable to loss or theft. We also know that beyond the physical device, the data they hold can be so important that loss or unwanted exposure could be catastrophic. We believe that security should begin with an understanding of how devices are deployed, backed by a strong deterrence, tracking, and finally eletronic protection of data. In combination, from asset management and deterrence, to tracking and data security, STOP Products are the perfect blend of comprehensive protection and cost-effectiveness. headquarters of STOP are located in Norwalk, Connecticut.

A misplaced bag in a Texas parking lot turned into an active recovery effort after a Hobby Lobby employee found a Dell laptop protected with a STOP Security Plate.

Once STOP received the call, our team used the plate information to verify the device’s owner. The laptop was confirmed to belong to a university medical center in Texas, and the incident details were passed along to the organization’s STOP administrator.

From there, the medical center began coordinating with university police to recover the laptop.

This is exactly why clear device identification matters. When valuable equipment is found outside of its expected environment, the right security marking can help connect the dots quickly, guide the report to the proper contact, and support a more organized recovery process.

A park bench can be a peaceful place to answer emails, edit a project, take a video call, or enjoy a change of scenery while getting work done. 🌳 With fresh air, open space, and fewer office distractions, it can feel like the perfect temporary workspace.

But outdoor workspaces come with a different kind of awareness. Laptops, tablets, phones, bags, and external drives can be easier to grab in open public areas, especially when people are walking by, sitting nearby, or moving quickly through the space.

Even a small distraction can create risk. Looking away to take a call, grabbing a coffee, checking on a pet, or stepping a few feet away from your bag may be enough time for a device to go missing. 💻

STOP Theft helps add visible identification, deterrence, and recovery support for devices that travel beyond the office. Whether you work from a desk, a café, a park, or a bench between meetings, your technology deserves protection wherever the workday takes you.

Sometimes the value of a recovered laptop goes far beyond the device itself.

In this customer’s case, the laptop was returned after it suddenly reappeared in a suite. While the cords and accessories were not recovered, the laptop itself came back, along with the important files, personal information, and peace of mind stored on it.

Their takeaway was simple: the STOP Security Plate may have made the laptop too risky to keep.

This testimonial is a powerful reminder that visible identification can change the outcome. Accessories without identification may disappear, but a protected device has a clearer path back to its owner.

We are grateful to have played a role in this recovery and even more grateful that the customer got back what mattered most.

When an employee, intern, contractor, or temporary staff member wraps up their time with an organization, equipment return should be part of the exit process, not an afterthought.

Laptops, tablets, monitors, backup drives, chargers, access cards, and other assigned tools can easily get overlooked during a busy transition. Without a clear return process, devices may remain in someone’s home, vehicle, desk drawer, or bag long after access has ended.

A strong offboarding checklist helps protect both the organization and the person leaving. Confirm what equipment was assigned, collect each item, update asset records, remove account access, and verify whether devices are ready to be reassigned, stored, or retired.

Returned equipment is more than a box to check. It helps reduce loss, protect sensitive information, and keep technology accountability clear from the first day to the last.

A laptop with a STOP Security Tag was recently found near Downtown Crossing in Boston, at the intersection of Summer and Washington Streets. The device was inside a purse along with several personal belongings, including credit cards, a driver’s license, and a cell phone.

After receiving a call from an employee at the Downtown Boston Alliance, STOP was able to use the security information on the device to help confirm where it belonged. The laptop was identified as property of a large Boston law firm, and the firm’s administrator has been notified.

The recovery process is now underway.

Stories like this show why visible identification matters. When a device is found, whether in a busy city intersection, a public space, or an unexpected location, having a clear way to identify and report it can help turn a stressful loss into a more organized recovery path.

We’ve all had that thought: “I’ll only be gone a minute.” Maybe you’re stepping away from your desk, grabbing a coffee, talking to a coworker, or leaving your laptop in the car for one quick errand.

Unfortunately, a minute can be plenty of time for an unattended device to disappear. Laptops and other electronics left in open offices, classrooms, vehicles, cafés, or shared spaces can quickly become easy targets.

A few extra seconds to secure your device can make a big difference. And with a visible STOP Security Plate, your equipment has an added layer of theft deterrence and permanent identification, helping make that “quick minute” a little less risky.

Preparedness is not only about storms, outages, or physical emergencies. For many organizations, being prepared also means knowing exactly what to do when a laptop, tablet, or work device goes missing.

A lost device can quickly affect more than the equipment itself. It may involve work accounts, saved passwords, client records, confidential files, cloud access, internal systems, or sensitive data that needs to be secured right away.

This National Preparedness Month, take time to review your device loss response plan. A clear plan helps teams respond faster, reduce confusion, and protect the information behind the device. Preparation works best when it happens before the moment of panic.

When a device goes missing, the first few steps can make a big difference. A lost laptop, tablet, or work device may carry access to email, cloud storage, company systems, client files, saved passwords, and other information that needs to be protected quickly.

Start by thinking through the last known location, then report the loss right away to the appropriate person or team. From there, secure important accounts by changing passwords, signing out remotely when possible, and removing the missing device from trusted devices if that option is available.

Tracking tools, asset records, serial numbers, and STOP ID information can also help create a clearer response path if theft is suspected. The more details you have, the easier it becomes to document the situation and take the right next steps.

Device protection works best before the panic begins. Visible identification, recovery support, tracking, and smart login habits can help protect both the equipment and everything connected to it.

A Good Samaritan in Pennsylvania recently found an Apple iMac near a dumpster with a visible STOP Security Tattoo. The original STOP Security Plate had been removed, but the permanent tattoo remained, making it clear that the device had been protected and traceable through STOP.

After the device was reported, our team was able to confirm its status. The iMac had been properly decommissioned by a school district and was free and clear of ownership, meaning there was no active theft concern.

This story is a strong reminder of the role visible identification can play throughout the full life of a device. Even after a security plate is removed, the STOP Security Tattoo continues to provide a point of reference for verification, accountability, and peace of mind.

Sometimes recovery support means helping return stolen equipment. Other times, it means confirming that a device has reached the end of its official use responsibly and transparently.

A visible security measure can make a meaningful difference.

After repeated laptop thefts from its offices, one organization installed STOP Security Plates across 2,000 devices. Shortly after deployment, the number of reported thefts dropped to zero.

Their experience shows the value of making device protection easy to see. A STOP Security Plate clearly identifies equipment as protected and difficult to resell, helping discourage theft before it happens.

“It really is a visible deterrent.”
