A Metro Detroit magnet fisherman made a wild discovery in Mount Clemens, pulling a WWII-era Browning machine gun from the Clinton River.

Jason Vanderwal says it marks the 116th firearm he’s recovered from local waterways during five years of magnet fishing. Authorities now have the weapon, and exactly how it ended up in the river remains a mystery.

Mitch McConnell has now returned to the Senate after a three-month absence, arriving at the Capitol on September 15, 2026, following a fall at his Washington home on June 14 that left him briefly unconscious.

The Kentucky Republican, 84, was hospitalized, transferred to a rehabilitation facility, and discharged on August 6 to continue recovering at home. Doctors ruled out a stroke, heart attack and major fractures but said lingering effects of childhood polio, along with a bout of pneumonia, complicated his recovery.

Throughout the absence, McConnell continued drawing his full Senate salary of $174,000 a year, roughly $476 a day, with no cap on how long paid leave can last for members of Congress.

His voting record on the issue has drawn renewed scrutiny. Fact-checkers confirmed McConnell voted against or blocked sick leave measures in 1993, 2015, 2020 and 2022. In 1993 he opposed the Family and Medical Leave Act. In 2015 he voted against a paid sick leave amendment tied to a budget resolution. As majority leader in 2020, he blocked an effort to extend paid family and sick leave benefits during the pandemic. In 2022 he voted against guaranteeing freight rail workers seven days of paid sick leave.

Congress has no formal paid sick leave policy of its own. Members simply keep receiving their salary indefinitely while absent, with no requirement to prove they are working.

Upon returning, McConnell said his “recovery has been a long and often frustrating process, and the lingering effects of childhood polio haven’t made it any easier.” He added that he was “still not quite back to 100%.”

In an earthquake vote on Capitol Hill, the House just ordered the withdrawal of all American troops from Iran. Seven Republicans broke party lines to join every Democrat, dealing a STUNNING blow to military leadership. Washington is officially in CRISIS over this war. Is this a long-overdue EXIT or a dangerous retreat that invites chaos?

MCCONNELL IS 84. TRUMP IS 80. AND AMERICA NEEDS TO ASK A SERIOUS QUESTION.

This photo is not simply about two old politicians.

It is about whether age, health and physical fitness should matter when someone holds enormous political power.

Mitch McConnell, 84, returned to the U.S. Capitol this week after roughly three months away recovering from a fall that left him briefly unconscious and was followed by pneumonia. He appeared in a wheelchair and acknowledged that he was “not quite back to 100%.”

McConnell has already announced that he plans to retire from the Senate after the 2026 midterms. But his return has once again raised questions about whether lawmakers should face stronger standards concerning age, health transparency and their ability to perform one of the most demanding jobs in government.

And then there is Donald Trump.

At 80, Trump is now the oldest person ever to serve as president.

That does not mean McConnell or Trump is automatically incapable because of age. Ability is not determined by a birth certificate.

But the standard should be brutally simple:

Can you still do the job?

America does not need politicians to prove they can stay in power forever. It needs them to prove they can still carry the responsibilities that come with that power.

AGE SHOULD NOT AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFY SOMEONE. BUT AGE SHOULD NEVER AUTOMATICALLY ENTITLE SOMEONE TO POWER EITHER. FITNESS, CAPACITY, TRANSPARENCY AND PERFORMANCE SHOULD COME FIRST.

PUBLIC OFFICE IS A PUBLIC TRUST, NOT A LIFETIME ENTITLEMENT.

🚨BREAKING: Mike Roger’s campaign won’t participate in FOX 2 U.S. Senate Debate citing moderator Roop Raj as the reason

Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed has confirmed he will participate in the event Tuesday evening hosted by FOX 2’s Roop Raj.

Republican Mike Rogers was not committed and hours before the debate a spokesperson released a statement essentially saying they believe the moderator would be bias. His camp went on to say part of the reason they developed that conclusion was because the controversial figure Hasan Piker complimented Raj’s moderating skills in a previous debate.

The debate is happening regardless with an open podium.
