If you're a W-2 employee, your 401(k) is a great tool — but you're picking from a menu someone else built.
If you're self-employed, a Solo 401(k) hands you the keys: same contribution power, full control over where your money goes — real estate, trust deeds, and beyond.
Neither path is wrong. The question is whether the one you're on is actually built around you.

What’s actually covering these rising costs for you right now?
For most people, the honest answer is: their paycheck. And when the paycheck can’t stretch far enough, they quietly start dipping into savings — chipping away at the pile they worked years to build, just to keep up with the pump.
There’s another way to carry the cost of living, and it’s the one wealthy families have quietly used for generations: they don’t spend down their money to survive rising prices. They own things that pay them.
Certain alternative investments are built around cash flow — the idea being that you use the income the asset generates to help cover everyday expenses, while the money you originally put in stays invested and working for you. Instead of shrinking your savings to keep up, you build income streams designed to help absorb the rising costs for you.
That’s the whole shift — from “how do I make it stretch” to “how do I set up money that carries the load.”
And this isn’t only for the self-employed or the already-wealthy. Whether you’re W-2 or run your own thing, the right approach depends entirely on your situation — which is exactly what a free discovery call is for.

Most people invest for one thing: growth. Buy something, watch the number climb, and hope it's high when you're ready to sell.
But there's a quieter strategy that doesn't get talked about enough — investing for cashflow. The difference is simple: growth pays you once, when you sell. Cashflow pays you along the way, while you still own the asset.
I broke down four reasons that matters in the graphic 👆
And no — this isn't just for business owners. Whether you're a W-2 employee or self-employed, the principle is the same. It just has to be built around your accounts and your goals.

The self-employed version of the 401(k) is actually better than the one you left behind at your W-2 job.
A regular 401(k) caps your contributions at $24,500 next year. A Solo 401(k)? Up to $72,000 — because you get to contribute as the employee AND the employer.
Add in the ability to choose your own investments, a built-in Roth option, a loan feature, and the option to include your spouse… and it might be the most underused tool in self-employment.
If you’re a freelancer, contractor, or owner-only business and you’ve never heard of this, that’s exactly why I posted it.
Comment or DM me “SOLO” and I’ll send you the plain-English breakdown of how it works and who qualifies. No pitch — just the education I wish more business owners had.

Saving more won’t make you wealthy.
I know that sounds backwards. But stay with me.
The formula everyone teaches you:
Earn more → Save more → Build wealth.
It’s incomplete.
The missing piece isn’t how much you save.
It’s where those dollars go after you save them.
Here’s the math:
$2,000/month saved = $240k over 10 years.
$240k in the wrong buckets = slow growth, missed compounding, years wasted.
$240k in the right buckets = acceleration, momentum, actual wealth.
Same dollars. Completely different life.
I see this constantly with my sales clients.
Crushing quota. Great income. Saving consistently.
And the money just… sits there.
Wrong account. Wrong allocation. Wrong strategy.
It’s like putting cheap gas in a Porsche and wondering why it won’t perform.
The engine is there. The fuel is there.
What’s missing is direction.
You don’t need to close one more deal.
You need to direct your dollars better.
That’s the shift that changes everything.
