My youngest has severe autism. In my learning to help him, I became a Special Education/ADA paralegal & started advocating at the Capitol of California.
I take a common sense approach and look at each student as one person. I am not an Attorney,

When Austin was about seven, I fought San Dieguito Union high school district’s transportation for appropriate a car seat in a bus. My mother’s boss, Dan Love, did say that comment. He said if that if he gave it to Austin, that he would have to give it to everybody’s child. I believe that my comment was that if he didn’t give it to Sandy Woodruff’s grandchild her child would teach everybody else’s how to get it.
I look back now and I’m pretty sure that is still my objective.
Do not lie to parents, do not choose lawyers over us, choose to do your damn job and educate children and make productive people who are tax payers and not tax dependent.
I say often. You don’t have to do what I do. Your job is still to change the world from the place you stand in. Let’s hope this video goes viral and reminds school districts. The best money spent is making sure every one of their teachers and employees don’t pay for tax dependents. Let’s get as many students on IEP’s as possible to have good solid transitional goals and make tax payers.

When you are out and someone says your education is not a constitutional right, but you say it is in California. .

Wandering is a big issue in our community and my child. Austin Primer is a wanderer so I’m asking for a friend to see if anybody has one of these that she can have to protect her adult child.
“I currently have a Jiobit generation three GPS tracker for our son with autism who elopes I am looking for a replacement charger cradle for it. They don’t sell them anymore. Does anyone have one they no longer want that I could buy?”
If you have one, please reach out so that we can protect one of our most vulnerable damaged children.

As a parent of an adult who wanders and an advocate that helps parents with school wandering issues, I am very happy with all the new members of the IACC, but especially for the nomination of National Autism Association’s Krystal Higgins, for the safety awareness it will bring our community.
“The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the appointments of new public members to the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC). The IACC is a federal advisory committee composed of public stakeholders and federal officials that coordinates federal activities concerning autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and provides advice to the HHS Secretary on issues related to autism.”
The individuals appointed bring a fresh perspective including advocates for wandering/eloping safety, Spellers, biomedical and alternative interventions, legislative and systems change leaders. We at Educate. Advocate. applaud these appointments.

Here’s to many more years at the state, federal and the IEP level with families like mine who deserve a Free and Appropriate in person education.
This weekend Educate. Advocate. was blessed to attend the 10 year Gala for A Voice for Choice!
They were recognized for their “unrelenting voice in advocating”.
