Remember everyone: this is the President that ran on eliminating waste, fraud and abuse. But much of what he’s done is create more waste, fraud and abuse.

Dismissed with prejudice.

That is the ruling a judge just handed down in the case against David Hearn, permanently closing the door on this phony and vindictive prosecution.

Hearn, a 67-year-old former Team USA Olympian, was facing up to 10 years in prison after being accused of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

But the evidence showed he didn’t cause the damage. A flawed installation did.

This case never should have gotten this far. No American should be dragged through the criminal justice system because of political pressure or to cover for someone else’s mistake.

Congress needs answers.

Public service and stock trading don’t mix.

Members of Congress, the President, the Vice President, Cabinet officials, and their families should not be able to trade individual shares of stocks. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Bigger fines won’t fix it. We need a BAN. No loopholes. No special exceptions.

This is ILLEGAL.

Congress decides what gets funded, and the President is required to follow those decisions. That is NOT optional.

And if you don’t believe me, take it from the Government Accountability Office, Congress’s non-partisan watchdog, who thinks it’s illegal too.

My Democrat and Republican colleagues and I on the House Appropriations Committee have spent the last year fighting over, negotiating, and deciding how every single dollar of this funding should be spent.

Trump & his Budget Director Russ Vought are now trying to get around all of that with something called a “pocket rescission.”

Here’s how it’s supposed to work: if the President wants to cancel funding Congress already approved, he sends Congress a request. Congress has 45 days to approve or reject that request. If Congress says no, the President has no choice but to release it.

Except Trump waited until there were only FIVE DAYS left in the fiscal year.

He is denying Congress the opportunity to even make a decision, and it’s a clear violation of the Constitution.

The President does not get to just cancel $1 billion that Congress passed, and he himself signed into law without consulting Congress.

It’s time to close this loophole once and for all.

Trump cut a deal with one of the most corrupt and violent gold mining companies in Venezuela, a company that the U.S. has designated a threat to our national security and one whose miners pay protection money to a local gang.

The U.S. has imposed sanctions on Venezuelan gold for years and for good reason: the industry has been tied to gangs, corrupt military officials, human-rights abuses, and illicit financing.

So why is the Trump Administration importing hundreds of millions of dollars of it?

After intervening in Venezuela, the Trump Administration tried to turn Venezuelan gold into a quick economic and geopolitical win. Except they didn’t do their homework.

They didn’t confirm that the gold was clean. Now we know some of the gold is connected to local gangs.

So, they shipped all of this gold to the U.S. and guess what? Refiners don’t want to touch it.

Why? Because whoever refines it has to be able to guarantee that gold wasn’t tied to gangs, corruption, or other illegal activity, and they can’t do that.

This Administration rushed into Venezuela’s notoriously corrupt gold industry, brokered deals tied to a supply chain riddled with gangs and corruption, and rushed hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of gold into the U.S. that now no one wants to touch, while gangs are getting a cut of the profits.

The Trump Administration owes Congress some serious answers about these deals. We need a full investigation on how they happened, who signed off on them, and whether they broke any laws in the process.

Then there are the natural disasters. More and more homes are being put at risk, and we're seeing it right here in California where homes in Dana Point are on the verge of collapsing.

Climate change is not some bill that comes due 50 years from now. We are already paying for it.

And the longer we wait to fix it, the bigger that bill gets.
