Scattered Thunderstorms Return as Fronts Stall to our South

Good morning, everyone. It's Thursday, and we're tracking several weather features that will keep our forecast somewhat unsettled over the next several days.

Moisture associated with Tropical Storm Arthur is expected to remain mainly south of the Mid-South, but enough tropical moisture could drift northward this afternoon to spark a few scattered thunderstorms across the area. In addition, a cold front will move through on Friday before stalling to our south. That boundary will lift back north as a warm front on Saturday, and yet another front is expected to arrive by Monday, bringing additional rain chances before it too stalls south of the region.

For today, look for partly cloudy skies with a high temperature near 86 degrees. Winds will be out of the south at 5 to 10 miles per hour. We'll carry a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms, primarily during the afternoon and early evening hours. Tonight's low will be around 71 degrees.

Friday will feature partly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching the middle 80s. Winds will shift to the northeast at 5 to 10 miles per hour behind the cold front. An isolated afternoon thunderstorm remains possible, with rain chances around 20 percent. Friday night's low will fall into the upper 60s.

On Saturday, skies will be partly sunny as the warm front returns northward. High temperatures will remain in the middle 80s with lows in the lower 70s. Southeast winds at 5 to 10 miles per hour will help increase moisture, and afternoon thunderstorm chances rise to 40 percent.

Sunday brings partly sunny skies and warmer temperatures, with highs climbing into the upper 80s and lows in the middle 70s. Scattered thunderstorms remain possible during the afternoon and evening, with rain chances holding near 40 percent.

By Monday, another frontal boundary approaches the region, bringing mostly cloudy skies and our highest rain chances of the forecast period. High temperatures will be in the middle 80s with lows near 70 degrees. Scattered thunderstorms are likely, with rain chances increasing to 60 percent.

Tuesday turns partly sunny with highs in the middle 80s and lows in the upper 60s. We'll continue with a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, partly cloudy skies return with temperatures remaining in the middle 80s. Rain chances decrease to 20 percent, with only an isolated afternoon thunderstorm possible.

In summary, while Tropical Storm Arthur should remain to our south, a series of fronts and abundant moisture will keep daily thunderstorm chances in the forecast through much of the upcoming week.
