🚧 Temporary Trail Bridge Closure Notice 🚧

To ensure the safety of our trail users, the two trail bridges at Lake Cunningham will be temporarily closed for concrete repairs to the bridge abutments from Monday, August 10, through Wednesday, August 12.

During this time, there will be no through access on the trail between the two bridges.

Trail Access During Construction:
Entering from Entrance 1: The trail will remain open heading west until you reach the bridge near Entrance 4. At that point, you will need to turn around and return the way you came.

Entering from Entrance 4: The trail will remain open heading south to the bridge near Entrance 1, or you may travel northeast into the campground. The bridge toward Entrance 1 will be closed, so you will need to turn around or continue into the campground.

Entering from the Campground: The trail will remain open traveling northwest toward Entrance 4. Once you reach the bridge near Entrance 4, you will need to turn around and return to the campground.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete these important improvements to help keep Lake Cunningham's trails safe for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the full trail once construction is complete!

Did you know the Paxton/Creighton Blvd trail (we love most of it) is parallel to Ames Ave. from Fontenelle Blvd to N. 31st Ave and then the North Omaha Trail parallels Ames a few blocks to the South where you can catch Sprague St which is lower volume than Ames Ave. Not sure we would ride a bike in a bike lane on Ames Ave when there are safer options.Motor vehicle drivers often don't know what to do with bike lanes...(learning curve). Traffic does need to slow down, but from stories we've heard from the 108th & Fort area bike lane, peeps who want to go fast, go fast, bike lanes be damned. Take the Paxton Blvd trail instead. You'll be glad you did.

BTW, the big equipment is gone from the culvert replacement North of Maple behind Design Plastic. Should be opening back up soon YAY! unless the concrete needs to be replaced!

This is so sad. LIz had attended several of our meetings. She was a great person who cared about our community.

Rest in peace, Liz, our wonderful council staff assistant who passed away unexpectedly last week. Peace and condolences to her family and city employees who worked with Liz. She was a wonderful public servant, mother, wife, sister, daughter and kind soul. 🙏🙏🙏

If you need to take a sidwalk along a busy street to reach the trail......here's hoping the sidewalk is passable. N. 90th near Boyd to access the Keystone. Informed the City of Omaha - Mayor's Hotline

Last minute quick trip out to Lake C....(also looking at the underpass clearing to see how far it went..) Came upon this tree and parts down just north of Somerset Park. Was trying to make a report on the Hotline app, and it wouldn't put in an address so gave up and called. While on the line with the Hotline person, guess who showed up. That was the fastest repsonse I've every had.😆 Actually, the Parks Maintenance mowers had seen it and got the right guys with the right tools to clear it. Biked to CB today to catch a photo of how they use asphalt to mitigate areas of concern for bikes or pedestrians. The manhole cover I was looking for has been totally covered with asphalt. However, there was an example of another area. That being said, there is the manhole cover on the west side of S. 72nd St. South of Pacific that super needs some work. It was reported last year. An orange cone was put on it, and then it kinda went missing. The Hotline report was closed. This is not a good thing for a sidewalk that ANY wheeled user may need. Think ADA, bikes, scooters, etc. Will submit another report. With all the detours for active transportation, creating safe passage for all humans is important.

OMG. Didn't go further north on the Keystone than Blondo with the broom..... cleaning up the crappy cement job, but someone totally super cleaned the underpasses. Makes one suspicious that the NRD is about to encroach. If you helped with the clearing, and mowing, THANK_YOU!
