Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging
Our Mission: To help older Nebraskans live independently and remain for as long as possible in their own homes.

As one of 622 area agencies on aging created by Congress under the Older Americans Act, the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging serves families in Douglas, Sarpy, Dodge, Cass, and Washington counties. As one of 650 area agencies on aging created by Congress under the Older Americans Act, the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging serves families in Douglas, Sarpy, Dodge, Cass, and Washington counties. ENOA's role is to ensure that the older adults within its region have access to a continuum of services that help them to remain active, independent, and in their own homes for as long as possible. ENOA serves as a gateway to aging services that already exist in the community and also operates its own programs that fill previously unmet needs in the five-county area. Through our nutrition programs, case management services, employment counseling, volunteer opportunities, and community services, ENOA's goal is to enhance the lives of the 85,500 older Nebraskans who live within our service area.

Ageism Awareness Day is Oct. 9

Ageism Awareness Day is an opportunity to draw attention to the impact of ageism in our society and work together to build age-inclusive communities.

Ageism refers to stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel), and discrimination (how we act) toward others or ourselves based on age. It negatively impacts our health and well-being, our financial security, and the economy. It impacts us at every age.

Each year on October 9, we join together to address ageism and promote age-inclusion on Ageism Awareness Day.

Wrapping up September we continue our 'What's Happening Wednesday' series by highlighting the ENOA Fun Committee!

The ENOA Fun Committee exists to bring a little fun, relaxation, and even some friendly competition to the agency. Funds raised from the Flea Market and Bake Sale are used to pay for employee treats, prizes, and the accessories needed for the events and contests. Service projects that are hosted by the Fun Committee provide needed items for both ENOA clients and those served by non-profit organizations. Here are just a few of the activities the Fun Committee sponsors:

One of the most common questions about Medicare is, "When can I sign up?" The answer depends on your situation. Many people become eligible at age 65, while others may qualify earlier because of a disability or certain health conditions. Some people who are turning 65 may also be able to delay enrollment if they have other health coverage.

Because Medicare enrollment rules can be different for everyone, it helps to understand your options and make a plan that fits your needs.

Your local SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) can provide free, personalized help with your Medicare timeline and coverage choices.
