Paris comes to Omaha! ☕🥐🗼
Beginning Sat, Sep 26, the Joslyn Art Museum presents “Café Society: Art and Sociability in Paris, 1855–1914.” The Joslyn is a co-organizer of this international exhibition of over 50 works from museums and collections around the world.
In nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Paris, the café was the place to be. From cozy bistros and elegant brasseries to lively dance halls and cabarets, these gathering places brought artists, performers, writers, and everyday people together. Cafés were places to enjoy food and drink, share ideas, and experiment with new forms of artistic expression. “Café Society” at The Joslyn explores the rise of French cafés and their impact on modern art. This exhibition features works by Vincent van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Édouard Manet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, James Tissot, Edgar Degas, and more.
“Café Society: Art and Sociability in Paris, 1855–1914” is organized by Ordrupgaard, Copenhagen, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis, and Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha.
