Story time! I'm sure most of you have been to hot outdoor festivals, so let's talk about how hot it can get onstage. We started Psychostick in the Phoenix area, and I had been to Ozzfest and some other outdoor festivals plenty of times. Half the bands would always point out how hot it was, and sometimes they would say
something like "How do you people live here?!?" to which everyone thinks, "Yeah, we know. It's hot, stop reminding me." But then we actually got to PLAY on an outdoor stage in Phoenix in the summer. It was the Rockstar Mayhem Festival in Phoenix, July 18, 2008. This was the Sandwich era with Jake and Jimmy. We played the Jagermeister stage. The stage was black, and it was at least 105 degrees (110+ is common during the summer in Phoenix).
The first thing I noticed was how much the heat messed with gear. It was hard to keep the guitar in tune, and the heat was making it difficult to read the LEDs on my guitar tuner. It was scorching, SO much worse than I thought it was going to be, and the stage was so hot that it was burning my feet through my shoes.
There was one part in the set when I kicked off the breakdown to "Two Ton Paperweight" by myself, and when doing so Jake and Jimmy knelt down on the stage and made the "give it to me" wiggly-finger-motion at my guitar. I took my sweet time getting started, which I usually did for dramatic effect, but I really shouldn't have that day because their knees were burning on that stage.
The stage was so hot the next day that I had blisters on the bottom of my feet, from the stage burning my feet THROUGH my shoes. Phoenix sun : 1, feetsies and knees : 0.
It was still an amazing show, it was a dream come true. Just know that sometimes when dreams come true, they can be very sweaty.
We had kitty / doggo party, now post pics of other aminal frens. Miscellaneous pet party!

It keeps me up at night.
Just learned there is a 24/7 live stream of sled dog puppies. Repeat, puppy cam live stream. This is not a drill.
Story behind the “WHEEEE!” song at end of the Beer song… I had just purchased a new microphone to record Rob’s vocals for “We Couldn’t Think of a Title” (an Oktava MK-319 if you are wondering), and I wanted to test it out. We didn’t have a studio at the time, so I made due with using a closet full of clothes as a vocal booth. I had a bit to drink that night, so I really was half in the bag. I made up that stupid little song on the spot, and it felt right to put a filter on it tack it to the end of the Beer song. Another fun fact, the same “vocal booth” was used in the Dumb Song, which is why the line “you’re dumb because this recording studio is just my closet in my apartment” is in there. When we did vocals for WCTOAT, we upgraded and built a “vocal booth” in Rob’s apartment from a wooden frame with blankets hung over it. In retrospect, my closet sounded about the same.. compare my/Murph’s vocals on Dumb Song to Rob on WCTOAT. (This is Josh, btw). One of these days I’ll learn how to tell a story without going so audio engineer on you
Kitty party time! Yesterday we had people post pics of their dogs, now it’s time for cats. Post them furball pics.
