Today is the autumnal equinox, when the Sun crosses the equator and daytime and nighttime are nearly equal in length.

From here, the days will continue getting shorter until the winter solstice!

Can you make a pumpkin float? 🎃 Try this simple fall science experiment at home!

Supplies:

- Mini pumpkin
- Large bowl or bin
- Water
- Spoon/Scoop
- Paper, toothpick and tape for an optional sail

Steps:

1. Have a grown-up cut the top off the pumpkin.
2. Scoop out the seeds and pulp.
3. Optional: Make a paper sail, attach it to a toothpick and name your pumpkin boat!
4. Fill a bowl or bin with water.
5. Make a prediction: Will your pumpkin sink or float?
6. Gently place it in the water and see what happens!
