Three weeks ago, Jeanette Benigas called me on the phone and asked me to make a website for her new advocacy project.
I didn't know it at the time, but I accepted a huge mission. I thought, a 1-page website? EZ.
I should have known... 😄 As it exists today, the SPEAK Project website is 8 very LONG and detailed pages outlining where and how to find resources to advocate for Speech-Language Pathology services.
I dedicated time that I truly did not have to ensure SLP private practices could access a data collection initiative that ended on 9/3 and aggregated over A MILLION DATA POINTS.
If you had asked me a year ago if I thought I would be here today, I would have died laughing.
As I sit here with my 1 year old rocking her to sleep and reflecting, I realize how truly lucky I am to be part of a field of individuals who are so passionate about their field that they would do anything to make their voices heard.
I am so incredibly grateful that Jeanette thought of me. I was meant to be part of this project and be LOUD for my patients and colleagues.
We are ALL in this fight together. 💪

Happy SLP day! I wanted to take a second to celebrate all the amazing speech pathologists I get to work with. Being an SLP is such a rewarding career especially when it comes to helping residents in our local nursing homes get the specialized care they deserve. Whether you are in a school a hospital or out on the road like me I hope you have a great day celebrating. I am proud to provide rapid in house diagnostics right at the bedside for Northwest Ohio SNFs.

This weekend was a major milestone outside the clinic. My Sweet Adelines barbershop chorus competed in the Region 17 competition, where we won first place in the small division and secured third place overall. This exciting placement means we even have the potential to compete at the International level in Seattle in the next year or two!
Being a vocalist directly impacts my work as a Speech Language Pathologist. Singing barbershop harmony requires intense vocal control, stamina, and breath support. Because I rely on my own voice for performance, I have a deep, personal understanding of how the upper airway functions under pressure.
This background makes me a sharper and more empathetic clinician. When I work with patients on voice and breathing, I am looking beyond the basic anatomy. I know exactly what it feels like to need your voice to function perfectly. This passion for vocal health is a huge reason why I expanded my mobile FEES practice across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan to include specialized voice diagnostics. I am currently getting accustomed to my new Patcom stroboscopy unit, which allows me to evaluate vocal fold vibration and airway function with incredible precision.
Whether I am diagnosing a swallowing disorder, managing an upper airway issue, or helping someone restore their voice, my life as a singer informs every clinical decision I make. I am incredibly proud of my chorus and ready to bring that same dedication to my patients this week.

Happy SLP Month!
I was thinking about my journey as a speech-language pathologist lately... and it is crazy to look back at everything that has happened since I graduated in May 2017.
I started out doing my clinical fellowship in 2018 in a skilled nursing facility before taking the leap as a travel SLP. That took me to Dayton, out to Lompoc California, and eventually to Lansing Michigan.
I loved Lansing so much I stayed on full time in 2019 working acute care and outpatient just before the world shut down. That same year I took my first FEES course... which really set the stage for my career.
We moved back home to the Toledo area to have our first baby, and in 2022 I joined an ENT clinic. That is where I got my stroboscopy training and finished my flexible endoscopy passes.
By 2023 I was ready to branch out and started Maumee Bay Mobile Speech Services offering mobile FEES and outpatient therapy. Around 2024 Dr. Jeanette Benigas and I started the Ohio FEES Coalition to advocate for our field across Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Last year brought another big change. I got pregnant with our second baby, added the trade name Swallowing Recovery Solutions, and shifted my focus primarily to FEES. I took a medical leave after my baby was born in September and just came back this past January.
To kick things off I completed an advanced FEES course and officially relaunched. Then in March of this year a major competitor in our area closed their doors... so I have been working non-stop to secure contracts and make sure patients in our region still get the care they need.
I am also so excited to be contracting with Progia Medical now to sell lingual manometers and other dysphagia management tools.
It has been a wild nine years... but I am so thankful for where this career has taken me.

7 months postpartum. Wow, time flies! The momentum is building, and I'm finally hitting my groove.
When I had my first child, I launched my business at 9 months postpartum. I assumed the second time around would be a familiar roadmap. But scaling a business while transitioning from one to two kids brought an entirely new set of challenges that tested my resilience in ways I didn't expect.
Growing Swallowing Recovery Solutions hasn't been easy these last 4 months, but it has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve never been one to follow the "traditional" Speech-Language Pathology path, and my mobile diagnostics model looks a little different than the norm.
But no matter what the transition to a family of four threw at me, one thing never changed: my uncompromising standard of clinical care. I strive for absolute excellence and thoroughness in my work. I am incredibly proud to run a company where true Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) guides every single procedure, report, and business decision I make.
Seeing this business take off and partnering with such forward-thinking medical clinics makes all the late nights and early mornings worth it. Proud to be an SLP, proud to be a business owner, and so proud to be a mom of two. Let's keep building! 📈🩺

BIG NEWS! 🥳 We are officially adding a SECOND local facility to our route!
The ink is dry, and Swallowing Recovery Solutions is officially partnering with Legacy Health Services to provide bedside swallow studies (Mobile FEES) for Orchard Villa right here in Oregon!
When I started this business, my goal was to help local nursing facilities stop sending their fragile patients to the hospital just for a swallow test. After successfully launching with Old Orchard, adding Orchard Villa - literally right down the street in my hometown -is such an incredible feeling.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support me on this journey. We are officially growing in Northwest Ohio! 🚐🩺

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Swallowing Recovery Solutions has officially partnered with the incredible clinical team at Old Orchard Nursing and Respiratory Center! 🤝
When it comes to managing high-acuity residents, especially complex pulmonary and trach/vent populations, sending patients out to the hospital for diagnostics is stressful, costly, and time-consuming.
The rehab and nursing leadership at Old Orchard recognized the need for a faster, safer solution. By bringing our state-of-the-art Mobile FEES directly to the bedside, their Speech-Language Pathologists now have rapid, gold-standard diagnostics without ever having to transport a resident outside the building.
A huge thank you to Garrett and the entire administration team for trusting us as your local vendor of choice. We are so proud to serve the Toledo community alongside you!
