THINKING ABOUT BECOMING A FLORIDA LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER? HERE’S THE PATH MOST OFFICERS DON’T KNOW EXISTS.
YOU MAY NOT HAVE TO START OVER WITH A FULL FLORIDA POLICE ACADEMY.
If you have at least one year of full-time sworn law enforcement experience within the last eight years, you may qualify for Florida’s Equivalency of Training (EOT) process.
Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Complete and submit your CJSTC-76 application. An FDLE-authorized Selection Center, like GovSource, will review your eligibility and process your application.
Step 2: Attend a Florida Equivalency of Training (EOT) course, which is typically completed in 3 to 4 days.
Step 3: Pass the State Officer Certification Examination (SOCE).
Once you’ve successfully completed these steps, you’ll be eligible to pursue certification and employment with Florida law enforcement agencies.
If you have any questions about EOT or who qualifies, drop your questions in the comments below. Our team is happy to help.
AGENCY SPOTLIGHT | TITUSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Looking for a law enforcement career on Florida’s Space Coast?
In this Agency Spotlight, Sgt. Nelson explains why the Titusville Police Department is an outstanding place to build a career in law enforcement.
As a growing agency, Titusville is actively hiring lateral officers, Equivalency of Training (EOT) candidates, and individuals looking to begin a career in law enforcement. The department also places a strong emphasis on recruiting military veterans and transitioning service members.
Serving on Florida’s Space Coast provides unique opportunities to work alongside local, state, and federal partners while protecting one of the nation’s most important aerospace regions. Few agencies can offer the experience of serving a community that is home to the world’s most recognized space launches.
If you are currently serving as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer outside Florida, or have qualifying military law enforcement experience, you may be eligible to become certified in Florida through the state’s Equivalency of Training (EOT) process without attending a full basic academy.
GovSource is proud to serve as an FDLE-approved Selection Center, helping qualified candidates navigate the EOT process and begin their law enforcement careers in Florida.

STOP TREATING CAREER FAIRS LIKE THEY’RE JUST ANOTHER EVENT.
The best law enforcement recruiters don’t show up hoping to find great candidates.
They show up with a plan, measure everything, and leave knowing exactly what worked.
If you’re attending your next recruiting event, here are 5 things every recruiter should evaluate before setting up their booth:
1. IS YOUR BOOTH ATTRACTING PEOPLE… OR BEING IGNORED?
Take a step back and look at your booth from across the room.
Would you stop?
Your booth should immediately answer three questions:
• Who are you?
• Why should someone work for your agency?
• What’s the next step?
Clean branding, quality banners, engaging recruiters, videos, giveaway items, and a professional setup make a difference. First impressions happen in seconds.
2. ARE YOU ACTUALLY TRACKING YOUR QR CODES?
This is one of the biggest missed opportunities I see.
Don’t use the same QR code for every event.
Create a unique QR code for each career fair, military base, college campus, recruiter, flyer, or even banner.
Why?
Because now you can answer questions like:
• Which event generated the most scans?
• Which recruiter drove the most applications?
• Which marketing materials actually worked?
• Which locations produced qualified candidates?
• What time of day generated the most engagement?
If you aren’t measuring it, you can’t improve it.
Data should drive every recruiting decision.
3. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE TO APPLY?
Pull out your own phone.
Time yourself.
If the process takes more than a few minutes or requires applicants to search through multiple pages, you’re creating unnecessary barriers.
The easier you make the first step, the larger your recruiting pipeline becomes.
Reduce friction.
Increase applications.
4. CAN YOUR RECRUITERS SELL THE AGENCY?
People don’t join organizations.
They join people.
Every recruiter should be able to confidently answer:
• Why should someone choose your agency?
• What makes your culture different?
• What career opportunities exist?
• What benefits actually matter to today’s applicants?
Recruiting is about building relationships and trust, not just handing out brochures.
5. WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE FIRST 24 HOURS?
The event doesn’t end when you pack up.
It starts.
Every candidate should receive timely follow-up while your agency is still fresh in their mind.
Email.
Text.
Phone call.
Application assistance.
Personal connection.
The agencies that consistently recruit the best candidates are usually the agencies that follow up the fastest.
Successful recruiting isn’t luck.
It’s a system.
Measure it.
Improve it.
Repeat it.

Last week, GovSource Public Safety had the privilege of partnering with the Orlando Police Department to host the Law Enforcement Recruiter Workshop.
Bringing together 38 public safety professionals representing more than a dozen agencies, the workshop focused on strengthening how we recruit the next generation of law enforcement officers through collaboration, innovation, and professional development.
Throughout the day, attendees explored modern recruiting strategies, candidate engagement, employer branding, artificial intelligence, and practical approaches to building stronger recruiting programs.
More importantly, agencies came together to openly share ideas, challenges, and best practices that will continue benefiting our profession long after the workshop concluded.

🇺🇸 250 YEARS OF FREEDOM. 250 YEARS OF SERVICE. 🇺🇸
Today, America celebrates 250 years since the birth of the greatest nation the world has ever known.
The freedoms we enjoy today were never guaranteed. They were earned by generations of Americans who answered the call to serve and are preserved every day by those who continue that mission.
Across our country, military service members stand watch around the globe while law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, corrections officers, dispatchers, and countless public safety professionals protect our communities here at home.
At GovSource, we're honored to support that mission by helping agencies Recruit. Test. Develop. the next generation of public safety professionals. Strong communities begin with strong people, and strong people begin with a commitment to serve.
Today we celebrate not only our nation's history, but those who continue to write it through their service, sacrifice, and dedication.
To every man and woman wearing a uniform today, and to every veteran who has worn it before you...
Thank you.
Happy 250th Independence Day, America.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
