Lighting the path to healing by making mental heath treatment more financially accessible through our innovative scholarship program!

Lit Path is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our purpose is to "light the path out of the darkness of addiction" through partial scholarships for psychotherapy with certified professionals. We help make recovery therapy more affordable for everyone. Any therapist with the appropriate certification can apply to participate in the program for free which allows them to be able to offer scholarships to their clients. Our scholarship covers $65 per session for 16 sessions to support recovery from process (gambling, food, s*x, po*******hy, shopping, etc) and/or substance addictions.

Ask the Experts!
Your Question:
Does gaslighting require intent?

, Carley Pool MA, LPC, CSAT, MPTM, Doctoral Candidate says:

Excellent question. Yes and no, we ‘gaslight’ each other all the time- in relationships we try to influence others often. For example (on a smaller scale) all of us were made to believe in Santa even when we’re like ‘that’s weird and doesn’t make sense’. Then the second part is: if there is intent it may not always be to deliberately harm but rather to self protect, which then can cause harm by not considering impact. And then there are real situations where harm is the intention. So it depends on how the intention is understood.

Meet Colin Alphonso, LCDC-I, LPC-A, CSAT Candidate
@
Sometimes the person walking beside you understands the journey because they’ve had one of their own.

Colin Alphonso’s path into mental health began with his own experience in counseling. Through receiving support for his own challenges, he discovered a passion for helping others heal, grow, and move forward.

Today, with more than 10 years of experience in mental and behavioral health, Colin supports adolescents and adults navigating addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, compulsive behaviors, s*xuality, and major life transitions.

His areas of focus include:

🔹 Substance use & recovery
🔹 S*x and po*******hy addiction
🔹 Compulsive behaviors
🔹 Trauma
🔹 Anxiety & depression
🔹 Relationship challenges
🔹 S*xuality & gender processing
🔹 Young adults navigating adulthood
🔹 LGBTQ+ support

Colin earned his Bachelor’s in Rehabilitation and Addiction Studies and his Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of North Texas. His professional experience has included work with organizations such as Texas Health and Human Services, SAMHSA, and the National Association of Recovery Residences.

His philosophy is simple:

“You need someone to walk with you, not for you.”

Colin brings compassion and empathy to therapy while also believing that meaningful growth sometimes requires hearing a different perspective. His goal is to support clients wherever they are in their journey—not simply until they feel okay, but as they work toward truly thriving.

Outside of his work, Colin enjoys being outdoors, working on trucks, woodworking, volunteering with recovery programs, and spending time with his family.

We’re in the final 100 days of 2026—and we want to make them count. 💛

Over these final 100 days, we’re looking for 100 people who will commit to giving $100 a month.

Why 100?

Because $100 a month becomes $1,200 over the course of a year—enough to fund one full Lit Path scholarship.

That means 100 monthly donors can create 100 Paths to Healing every single year.

100 people who can access specialized care.
100 individuals and families given hope for a brighter future.
100 stories with the opportunity for a new chapter.

And it starts with people like you.

Will you be one of the 100?

💛 $100/month = one scholarship a year

Can’t commit to $100/month? You can still be part of someone’s Path to Healing. Every gift matters.

Let’s make the final 100 days count.

Ask the Experts!
Your Question:
Does gaslighting require intent?

, Melissa Haas IITAP--CSAT, CMAT, CCBRT, MAMFT says:

The short answer is…maybe. It depends on how you define gaslighting. Most addicts are focused on escaping scrutiny or exposure and are simply self-protecting when they make up stories or deny in ways that cause a spouse to feel crazy.

Their goal is not to make their spouse feel crazy or doubt himself/herself. Their goal is self-protection.

That being said, the result of gaslighting is always harmful to the spouse and to the relationship. Sarah Morales has a great training on this issue. (Many addicts do not even realize they are gaslighting. Some addicts are more intentional in their deceptive practices.)
