Let’s face it, we’ve all had a question or two regarding scoring.

In an effort to resolve these questions and perceived inaccuracies, the USASF has a new 100-point scoresheet for Worlds 2027 replacing its current 170-point scoresheet.

The change is intended to better align USASF scoring with IASF, which has also recently moved to a 100-point scale.

The effort was made in an effort to bring more consistency between the two scoring rubrics and according to the USASF, there are only small changes to the weight of each routine category.

Take a look for yourself:

Why Cheer is not a sport.

WHY CHEER IS NOT A SPORT

(and probably will never be).

On June 23rd, 1972, at the peak of the feminist movement, Title IX was signed into law.

The landmark federal civil rights law states:
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of s*x, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

While providing many new opportunities for women, Title IX is also the reason why cheer is not a sport.

Since its enactment 24 years ago today, Title IX applies to a variety of programs, but it has received the most attention for its impact on athletics, especially at the collegiate level, by prohibiting discrimination in federally funded education and providing women’s and men’s programs with the same resources, such as medical treatment, training, practice time, travel, and equipment.

So, while the powers that be decided softball, basketball, tennis and field hockey would be included in the list of federally protected programs, the 1972 version of cheer was not. Considered to be entertainment or a side-line club, cartwheels, pyramids and jumps were not seen as athletic enough. and from then on, our children in competitive cheer have fought the stigma of "cheer is not a sport."

It is important to note, that Title IX is a civil rights act, not sport related at all, although that was its primary result.

We're seeing a shift in the mainstream recognition of All Stars; televised competitions have helped, but until someone petitions legislators to include it in Title IX, cheer will never (officially) be a sport.

Though we know it is.

The world is discovering the powerhouse we’ve known since she was 12 years old.

Gabi Butler is among Time’s inaugural “100 Most Influential People in Sports.”

Read that again:
Time’s “100 Most Influential People in SPORTS.”

Published yesterday, Gabi is found between Olympian Gold Medalist Lindsay Vonn and mega basketball star LeBron James, and among the best athletes in sports.

Credit Time Magazine:

Gabi Butler is the face of American competitive cheerleading.

Long a star within that world, she entered the broader cultural zeitgeist in 2020 as a breakout cast member of Cheer, Greg Whiteley’s Netflix docuseries following her north-central Texas junior-college team, Navarro College, on its road to the National Cheerleaders Association championship.

Now 28, Butler—who won two national titles with Navarro—is investing in the sport’s future, competing in the Pro Cheer League (PCL), the country’s first professional cheerleading league, which debuted with four teams in January.

Though Butler’s team, the Miami Metal, was defeated by the Dallas Drive on a tiebreaker in the PCL championship, her impact on the league is just beginning, particularly as it adds two more teams ahead of its second season.

Varsity Spirit, the cheerleading giant and the PCL’s owner and operator, tapped Butler as its lead brand ambassador in February.

With a slate of youth clinics on the books this summer and more than 6 million followers across TikTok and Instagram, the floor is hers.

Congratulations Gabbi!
