Thank you to Yoli Manzo for hosting the 31 Days of Frida art event. I found some new art friends and the exercise definitely was something I needed.

I had actually chosen this photo at the beginning of the challenge, but didn’t like my sketch and thought it would be too hard. But I kept coming back to it. The photograph is by Sylvia Salmi, of Frida Kahlo, in 1944. It is part of the Bettmann Archive via Getty Images.

I have my original sketch of this reference, but couldn’t come to paint it because I love the roughness of the sketch.

But here we are at the end of the challenge, July 31st. I am thankful for Yoli Manzo post for finding me.

Thank you to the new follows and everyone for their generous comments! Stay tuned for more.

This photograph of Frida by an agave or maguey was taken about 1940 by Nickolas Muray. I love the movement of her rebozo.

This image of Frida was taken in 1937 at La Casa Azul by Toni Frissell. Friday is wearing a traditional Tehuana dress.

This photograph is said to have been taken in 1933 while Frida was in Detroit. The photographer is unknown. She is painting one of several socialites of the time.
