Chicago’s cold weather will be here soon. For this North Riverside home, we’re taking care of deteriorated bricks and lintels now, while there’s still time to get the wall ready for the season.

Tuckpointing? Sounds a little strange, right? But the idea is pretty simple.

Mortar is the material between the bricks that holds the masonry together. Over the years, it wears down. Tuckpointing means cleaning out the damaged mortar and putting fresh mortar back into those joints.

And here in Chicago, we have so much beautiful old brick architecture worth caring for. Sometimes that also means replacing a few bricks or changing the steel lintels above windows and doors. All part of helping these buildings carry their stories into the years ahead.

This Albany Park project needed a full rebuild of the upper front wall, from corner to corner. We removed the deteriorated masonry and rebuilt the section properly, giving the building a solid structure and a clean finish again.
