Although I’m out of the handyman business since 2007, and focused on my hot tub repair ( AllSpaRepair.com) business, I still do a few unusual and challenging repairs. A couple furnace repairs this week for friends with no heat, and a Samsung bottom freezer fridge. Word is out that most appliance guys refuse to work on Samsung appliances, and for good reasons. While they make excellent TV’s and phones, they are experiencing a painful learning curve in appliances, so don’t buy one for a few more years….
That said, I did the research and replaced the Icemaker and defrost heater. The ice buildup from the failed defroster caused the water inlet for the Icemaker to clog with ice. One thing Leeds to another and customer had no ice and water dripping inside fridge for almost a year because nobody would fix it. It took 3 trips, $125 in parts and about 6 hours to finally get it working. It was the agony of defeat for a while, but the harder the journey, the more glorious the victory at last!

People often ask, “ how do you learn all this stuff?”
Here is todays example. 2002 Speed Queen washer transmission failed. Part no longer available, so I bought a used trans on eBay, and took them both apart and was able to use the good top half of one and assemble with the good bottom half of another to produce one good rebuilt transmission….

Whirlpool tub leak job today in million dollar penthouse condo overlooking the been at Millennium park downtown.
No access panel, so had to use Diamond saw and very carefully cut and remove irreplaceable marble tile.
Found leak, fixed it, and re/installed tile, with matching color caulk instead of grout.
Cost? $800
Would have been $200, if only they had an access panel to begin with.

Gas pressure and gas volume. This new pool heater would not ignite. Gas pressure was OK, but volume was insufficient. It would drop to almost zero as soon as valve opened. Finally found a gas valve inside the house was clogged. Used a Tooth pic and a vacuum and finally, after much frustration, it’s working.
