Meet Mindy!

Mindy is our Next Gen Director and has been part of CBS for 6 years. She is also a wife, homeschool mom of four, former nurse—and somehow manages to keep all four of her kids involved in CBS, too! 😂🤍

One of the things she loves most about CBS is getting to watch her whole family learn and grow together.

And I think that really captures something special about CBS: this isn't just a place for adults to study the Bible. There is a place for the whole family to know God’s Word, build community, and grow in Christ together.

We are so thankful for the heart, energy, and love Mindy pours into our Next Gen ministry and into the families who are part of CBS Park Ridge!

Jesus + what?

It’s easy to read about the false teachers in Colossae and think, “Well, obviously I would never fall for that.”

But Paul’s warning is actually pretty relevant to us.

We may not be tempted to add ancient pagan practices or Gnostic beliefs to our faith—but how often do we quietly start believing that Jesus is not quite enough?

Jesus + success.
Jesus + approval.
Jesus + control.
Jesus + comfort.
Jesus + the perfect circumstances.

Sometimes the “something more” isn’t a belief system.
Sometimes it’s something our own hearts are looking to for the security, identity, or fulfillment that only Christ can give.

Colossians 2 points us back to the truth:
We have been filled in Him.

Christ is not the missing piece of a bigger spiritual puzzle.
Christ is sufficient.

What would change in our lives if we really believed that? 🤍

This week’s memory verse is a warning worth remembering.

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”
— Colossians 2:8

There are so many voices competing for our attention.
So many ideas telling us what we need.
So many philosophies promising fulfillment.
So many things that can slowly pull our hearts away from the truth of Christ.

Paul gives us a simple question to bring everything back to:
Is this according to Christ?

This week, may we become people who know God’s Word well enough to recognize what is true—and who are so rooted in Christ that we aren't easily pulled away from Him. 🤍

What if Christ really is enough?

That sounds simple—but Colossians 2 reminds us how easy it can be to look for something more.

The false teachers in Colossae weren’t necessarily telling people to abandon Jesus. Their message was much more subtle: Jesus + something else.

Paul’s answer is clear: No.

In Christ, the fullness of God dwells. And as believers, we have been given fullness in Him.

We don’t need to add something to Jesus to make our faith complete.
When we have Christ, we have all we need. 🤍

This week, we’re digging into Lesson 4: Colossians 2:8–23 and asking what it really means to live rooted in the sufficiency of Christ.

Okay, I figured it was probably time to introduce myself. 😂
If you’ve been around CBS Park Ridge for a while, you’ve probably seen my name pop up here and there. And if you’re new this year—hi! I’m Nicole, and I’m the one behind this page. 👋🏻

But my CBS story actually started almost 10 years ago.

I first walked through the doors in 2017 , and I had no idea then just how much CBS would become a part of my life.

I came for the Bible study, but I quickly fell in love with the depth of God’s Word and the community that surrounded it. There was something different about sitting around a table with people who genuinely wanted to know Scripture, grow in their faith, and pray for one another.

And before long, I found myself wanting to serve, too.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in Next Gen, homeschool, and as a Core Leader—and now I get to help share a little of what’s happening here through social media. 📱🤍

But if you asked me what I love most about CBS, my answer probably wouldn’t be one of the programs or even the Bible studies themselves.

It would be the prayer and the people.

I have watched our Servants Team pray over this ministry, seek the Lord, care deeply about the people entrusted to them, and continually desire to represent Christ well. There is such a genuine dependence on the Lord and a desire to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

And honestly, that is one of the biggest reasons CBS has stayed so close to my heart for all these years.

It’s so much more than showing up once a week for a Bible study.

It’s people opening God’s Word together.
It’s praying for one another.
It’s serving when nobody is watching.
It’s asking hard questions.
It’s encouraging each other when life is hard.
It’s watching God work in someone else’s life—and realizing He’s been working in yours, too.

So whether you’ve been part of CBS for years or you just walked through the doors for the very first time last week…

Two weeks in… 🤍

We opened our doors, gathered around tables, opened our Bibles, and began a brand-new year of Community Bible Study Park Ridge!

And what a joy it was to be back together. 🥰

There’s something so special about that first day—the familiar faces, the new faces, the catching up, the “how was your summer?” conversations, and that excitement of opening a new study together.

This year, we're beginning with Colossians, and we can't wait to see all that God will teach us through His Word in the weeks ahead.

Whether you've been with CBS for years or this was your very first Tuesday with us, we're so glad you're here. 💛

Whether you’re returning for another year or walking through our doors for the very first time, we want you to know this:

You belong here.

This year, we’ll open God’s Word together - first in the book of Colossians, and then Genesis ! We will ask questions, learn from one another, encourage each other, and grow deeper in our relationship with Christ.

We don’t come because we have it all together. We come because we need Jesus—and we need each other. 💛

So grab your Bible, bring your questions, and come ready for a year of growing in grace and in the knowledge of God.

🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day, CBS friends!

As we enjoy this long weekend, we’re reminded that even in the midst of work, responsibilities, and busy seasons, our work ultimately belongs to the Lord.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters… It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
— Colossians 3:23–24 🤍

Whether your work happens in an office, a classroom, a home, a hospital, or somewhere in between, may we remember that the ordinary things we do each day can be an offering of worship to Him.

So today, take a breath. Enjoy your people. Rest a little. Soak up the last bit of summer. ☀️
