MIGGS

🎶 MIGGS: TRACK BY TRACK 🎶
NEW SERIES | EVERY WEDNESDAY

I’m takin’ a little dive back through my catalog — one song at a time — and tellin’ y’all some of the stories behind the music.
So, where better to start than where it all began?

TRACK 01: “YOUR COUNTRY SONG”

“Your Country Song” was my very first single and eventually became part of my debut album, The Road So Far — which went on to earn a Josie Music Awards nomination for Album of the Year.

But this song actually came together in stages.
I first came up with the hook “I can be your country song” while overlanding through the Canaan Loop with some buddies of mine. I held onto that idea for a while and eventually ended up blending two different songs I was working on into what became “Your Country Song.”
And somehow… it just worked.

Since this was going to be the first song I ever released, I wanted people’s first introduction to MIGGS to be FUN.
So I sat down with my buddy Bobby Jackson, and we started workshopping it. I had the lyrics — then we started mapping out the music, the direction, and what I wanted the song to feel like.

The goal was simple:

Something upbeat.
Something I could crank up live.
Something people could sing along to.

Makin’ it to Nashville wasn’t even supposed to happen.

My wife was actually the one who told me, “You should record it.”

Wouldn’t you know it… about a month later, I was sittin’ in a studio in Nashville with Ben Reno and some of the baddest musicians in town — guys who had played on records with charting artists.
Hell, I was a little starstruck. 😂 But I kept my cool… or at least I think I did.

And a lot of that opportunity came thanks to my friend and co-worker Nick Thomas, who had been producing music for years and helped open that door for me.

Crazy how one little push can completely change the direction you’re headed.

But more than anything, I wanted this song to tell folks a little bit about who I am.

Yeah, I’m from the city…

But give me backroads, cold b**r, good friends, a little mud on the tires, and the simple things any damn day.

All in all…

One look at me, you already know.
