In Philippians 3:4–14, Paul reflects on the accomplishments and status he once considered valuable. He now sees them as less important than knowing Jesus Christ. Paul does not claim to have reached perfection; instead, he keeps growing in faith, trusting Christ, and learning to live more like him. He leaves past failures and achievements behind and presses on toward the goal of life with Christ. The passage encourages us to keep moving forward in faith, relying on God’s grace at every step.

This Sunday is the first of the month, which means it is a Communion Sunday. If you, a member of your family, or a friend is unable to travel to the church in-person to receive Communion, Pastor Mesake is available to administer Communion at home. If you or someone you know would benefit from this service, please contact him directly at (510) 731-9514.

The Pastor makes weekly welfare checks (Physical or Phone calls) for members of the congregation when needed. These visits may also be extended to your friends and neighbors if requested. For urgent matters, please contact the church office during regular office hours or inform the pastor directly. Pastor Mesake’s in-person office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 AM to 1 PM, and Saturdays from 9 AM to 12 PM. He is not currently in the office on Mondays or Thursdays.

The first class of October is Deeper into the Bible, which is “for individuals seeking to deepen their comprehension of the Bible and to give them tools to enhance their joy and discovery in reading it.” You must have completed the Basic LSM class and Spiritual Gifts to attend this course. 𝑨𝑻 10 𝑨𝑴
Jesus tells Simon about two people whose debts are canceled. One owes a great deal, while the other owes less, but neither can repay. When Jesus asks who will love the lender more, Simon correctly answers that the one forgiven the greater debt will love more deeply.

The parable teaches that everyone needs God’s forgiveness, regardless of how different our failures may appear. Those who recognize the depth of God’s grace become more grateful, humble, compassionate, and willing to forgive others. Our love doesn't earn forgiveness; rather, it shows that we have truly received it.

The first class of September is United Methodist Heritage, which covers the Methodist way of approaching Christian faith. The third session will be on Thursday, September 24th from 6 to 9 PM on Zoom.

The second class of September is Spiritual Gifts, which builds upon the Basic LSM to help you discover your unique spiritual gifts and how to use them in ministry. The next session will be on Saturday, September 26th from 9 AM to 3 PM on Zoom.
