State Representative Jeff Barry

Great GOTV event at Grace Hall in Alvin!

Voting is an important part of making your voice heard, and it’s always great seeing familiar faces while welcoming new ones into the community.

Whether you’re a first-time voter or never miss an election, make a plan, get informed, and make your voice heard at the polls!

Here's the frustration I hear all over Brazoria County: "My tax rate went down, but my bill went up." How does that happen? The appraisal process is the culprit. Every year, appraisal districts pile on higher home values, and those runaway appraisals quietly drive up your property taxes, even when we cut rates and raise exemptions in Austin. It's the loophole that keeps your bill climbing no matter what we do.

I was proud to help deliver historic property tax relief this session, including bigger homestead exemptions and real limits on how fast rates can rise. But I'm not stopping there. The next fight is fixing the broken, out-of-control appraisal system that's eating away at that relief. Homeowners deserve honest, transparent appraisals, not values that balloon year after year to squeeze more out of your wallet.

I'll keep fighting to rein in the appraisal process and deliver property tax relief you can actually feel, the kind that lasts. Your home is your family's biggest investment, and you should never be taxed out of it.

We are going to have a great day walking and talking this week…. Thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters in advance:)

There are few evils more horrific than the trafficking of a child. Protecting the most vulnerable among us, especially our children, is one of our most important responsibilities.

That's why I was proud to coauthor and help pass legislation to make sure the criminals who traffic children face the full weight of justice. This session, we passed a law making those who traffic children and the disabled ineligible for parole, so these predators serve every single day of their sentence, with no early ticket back onto our streets.

Those who prey on the innocent forfeit any claim to leniency. Period. And I'll keep fighting alongside our law enforcement and the survivors who are brave enough to share their stories to root out this evil wherever it hides. Texas is standing with you.

It was an honor to attend the 2026 Star of Texas Awards this morning, where Firefighter Paige Hennighan of the Houston Fire Department was recognized for the serious injuries she sustained in the line of duty. There is no more fitting day than September 11th to honor those who run toward danger. Texas is fortunate to have first responders like her. Thank you for your service.

The people who pour their hearts into our kids every day deserve to be paid accordingly. That's why I voted for the largest investment in public schools in Texas history, and I made sure it didn't stop at classroom teachers. This new law funds real pay raises for the school counselors, librarians, and nurses who look after our children's minds, bodies, and futures, the support staff who too often get overlooked.

We also rewarded the teachers who take on the toughest assignments, expanding incentive pay so our best educators in rural and high-need schools earn more for stepping up where they're needed most.

Great schools start with great people. In Brazoria County and across Texas, I'll always fight for the educators and staff who invest in our kids every single day.

On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we pause to reflect on a day that changed our country forever. May we never forget the victims, the families who still carry that loss, and the heroes whose bravery continues to inspire us.

Great discussion today at Bay Area Houston Transportation Partnership - BayTran’s 5th Annual State of the Ports Executive Panel. Our ports are a major economic driver for our region and for Texas, and continued investment in transportation and infrastructure is critical to keeping them strong.

Appreciate our port leaders for sharing their insight and BayTran and the Greater Houston Port Bureau for bringing everyone together.

Fighting for YOU ahead of session!

I sat down with Texas Insurance Commissioner Mandy Crawford to discuss the rising insurance costs hitting families and businesses across HD 29 hard.

Lowering costs and stabilizing our insurance market is a top priority for me this session - and I’m leaving no stone unturned to get it done.
