Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Awareness Month is observed each August to raise awareness about this rare genetic neuromuscular disease that affects muscle strength and movement. SMA impacts individuals of all ages, but with early diagnosis, advances in treatment, and ongoing support, many people with SMA are living longer, fuller lives.

This month, we recognize the strength and resilience of individuals living with SMA, honor their families and caregivers, and support continued advocacy, research, and access to care. Together, we can help build more inclusive communities where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

National Purple Heart Day is observed each year on August 7 to honor the courageous men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who were wounded or lost their lives in service to our country. The Purple Heart is one of the nation's oldest and most respected military decorations, recognizing extraordinary sacrifice and bravery in the face of danger.

Today, we remember the heroes who have given so much to protect our freedoms and express our deepest gratitude to Purple Heart recipients, their families, and all who have served.
