One of the oldest and best known clubs in London, it got a good history of producing good boxers over the years. Produced the likes of Joseph Joyce and Bradley Skeete and who all started at this same gym.

Boxing History - Military Championship Belts 🪖🤓

Anyone that knows me well knows how much of a history nerd I am. Buzzing to find these at the barracks I’ve been working at the past couple of weeks 😁

These are the Boxing belts won by the Oxford and Light Infantry (one of the predecessors of my regiment The Rifles) in 1935 & 1937 between Featherweight and Welterweight. Bit unsure if it’s for UKAF or if it was against another regiment…. But still some stunning belts.

The Army (and the other arms of the military - RAF and Navy) have a proud history of Boxing. The Army Boxing Association is over 134 years old being formed in 1892!

It’s a shame they don’t make as many belts like this anymore… I get the big ones are fashionable now but these ones look like the stunning Lord Lonsdale Belt…. Which in my opinion is the best looking belt in Boxing.

Boxing Memorabilia 🥊✍️

Boxing memorabilia is a way of preserving the history of the sport.

🥊 Signed gloves — often connected to a specific boxer, fight or era.
🥊 Fight posters — original posters can tell the story of where and when historic bouts took place.
🥊 Championship belts — symbols of achievement that represent years of training, sacrifice and competition.
🥊 Photographs & programmes — snapshots of boxing history that capture fighters, venues and memorable nights.

For coaches, boxers and fans, memorabilia can be more than something on a shelf. It can be a reminder of the memories that mean something to that person in regard to Boxing.

I’m very blessed to have so many bits and pieces given to me as a gifts for memorabilia. Finally after many years got my original fight poster framed for Froch Vs Groves 2 & The GB Boxing 2012 Olympic Team. Both are signed by Carl and the 2012 team which is class.

Carl Froch remains one of my favourite boxers ever (I was also one of the fortunate 80,000 to get a ticket and see the fight at Wembley) and the 2012 Olympic team has special memories for me which I’m sure people can put two and two together as to why!

Boxing Psychology - The Lives of the Stoics 💭🧠

Anyone that knows me well knows how much Stocism has played an important part in my life. It’s a ancient western philosophy that teaches us about happiness, success, resilience and virtue.

I’ve always been a big believer in emotions being a waste of energy if you can’t control them. Some of the worst decisions I’ve ever made (and seen made with my own eyes) are people that let their feelings or emotions guide them. “It just feels right” is one of my pet hate quotes 🙄

Cus D’Amato was a famously known for teaching his boxers (namely Mike Tyson) the importance for boxers to control their emotions…. And to manipulate anyone that couldn’t 👀

This brilliant book tells the stories of famous Stoics throughout time. They are all remarkable people with their own unique stories…. It’s a great read for any one having a bit of a rough time but also for showing the power of Stoicism in its ability to control emotions. It’s something I believe all boxers can learn from to make a positive impact in their lives.

Losing your first amateur bout 😞🥊

Your first bout as an amateur is always one you remember but it’s also one that you always want to win. For some, it sadly won’t be.

Particularly for the younger kids, they can feel like it’s the end of the world when they lose their first amateur bout. All that hard work, seeing their favourite boxers win all the time, parents putting pressure on them to not let the family down etc can make them feel really low if they don’t get their hand raised the first time they box.

If I see a boxer particularly upset, I always show them this sheet of boxers that lost their first amateur bout. Then show them what they went onto achieve….. 😁🏆

It’s not how you start that everyone remembers… it’s how you finish. Some of the best boxers the world has ever seen weren’t as successful at the beginning as their more talented peers. But they never gave up, worked with their coaches and made the most of opportunities.

As I often remind the kids when they are down, some pretty big names here on this list were just like them once upon a time…. and it never stopped them doing some amazing things in Boxing.

Home Counties Squad - Future ABC 🥊👏

Good first Home Counties squad for the new season. Slightly quieter turnout due to Boxcups but still lots of good rounds of sparring and a blast on the pads at the end.

A few dates booked in for team matches and some exciting competitions coming up for the region. A few more always pop up aswell over the season so lots for the boxers to look forward to and get a chance to get a regional vest.

Massive Thankyou to Harley Pullen - Boxing Coach. and The Future Boxing Academy. for letting us use the gym.
