A few months ago, Green Philly joined Adventure Aquarium, the Center for Aquatic Sciences, and the New Jersey Natural Lands Trust (NJ Department of Environmental Protection) for a volunteer cleanup at Petty’s Island. 🏝️
In less than two hours, volunteers removed more than 1,700 pounds of trash, including over 5,000 single-use plastic water bottles. Every piece of litter we picked up helped protect this important Delaware River habitat. 🌊
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help protect our local waterways. This cleanup was a powerful reminder of what a dedicated group of people can accomplish in just a couple of hours. 💚
This has got to be one of our favorite secret spots in Philly. 👀
Created by environmental artist Ned Kahn, “Shimmer Wall” is a kinetic sculpture located on the Race Street side of The Franklin Institute. Made of 12,500 small aluminum panels, this installation uses wind and light to show the shifting patterns of the environment.

Green Philly partnered with Laurel Hill for a Historic Cemetery Tour and DIY Cemeterrarium (a cemetery-inspired terrarium) on Wednesday, July 22nd.
It was a beautiful summer evening with professional horticulturist Gregg Tepper, who led us through the Medallion Garden, guided us in creating terrariums, and introduced us to the incredible green spaces at Laurel Hill. A special thanks to Kate from Remark Glass who brought Remark's recycled glass sand to use in the terrariums!
