DKD Delta Chapter

was founded on Oct. 1, 1999 at Texas A&M University. Delta Chapter was founded on July 30, 2004. We are the Nation's ONLY South-Asian Service Sorority. The sisters live by the concept "Sisterhood Built Through Service." Through our goal for a brighter future, we begin our work with the purest of hearts - that of a child. In time, we hope that our work will benefit our communities and provide a lasting and prosperous future. commits itself to the fostering of a united sisterhood, the development of indomitable spirit, the betterment of the community through humanitarian services, and the education of ourselves and others about the Indian sub-continental culture. Furthermore, we dedicate ourselves to personal, cultural enrichment through the awareness and preservation of our traditions and morals. Since the concept and inception of Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, each Sister has sincerely dedicated herself to service. We feel that service is the purest way to grow and learn about each other but most importantly give ourselves to our community. Service is the basis of Delta Kappa Delta because we feel that through service, a person can grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. Each hour of service we do provides an opportunity to teach our society about who we are and learn about others. It provides an opportunity to grow and develop our Sisterhood and create a bond with those in the community. Service provides a chance to strengthen our spirit and rejuvenate our society. Each time a Sister does service she walks away with a better knowledge of whom and what she can become. To date, Delta Kappa Delta has completed over 30,000 hours in service. Because our philanthropy is very dear to us, the sisters of Delta Kappa Delta choose to take this effort one step further by completely engaging themselves in the cause. Our commitment to child abuse awareness and prevention does not stop at monetary donations. Rather, our commitment to our philanthropy is displayed in our dedication to educating adults and children about the different types of physical, mental, and emotional abuse that a child can endure. Every day, more than three children die of child abuse or neglect . That is over a thousand unnecessary deaths per year. We realize that we cannot change such devastating occurrences overnight; however, we believe that every ounce of time and effort given to child abuse prevention organizations, both national and local, will help at least one child. For this reason alone, the Sisters work hard to spread the awareness and prevention of child abuse. This is fulfilled not only by donating money to shelters that those in need of guidance, and refuge – but also as a means of physically providing a hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on, or an ear to listen. The Sisters regularly visit these shelters, in the United States and abroad to give the women and children something to smile about. The Sisters of Delta Kappa Delta Sorority hold this philanthropy very dear to our hearts. Children are our future; to harm them is to harm our existence.
