Otto is an official "foster fail" and is seen here with his new parents, Lauren & Michael!
Otto, the cutest polydactyl on all four paws, came into our Rescue as an abused kitten. He had a broken leg that had started to heal, but the bone was badly infected. There were two options: amputate or try to heal the infection which would require confinement and him wearing a cast that would need weekly changes for months. Treatment was long, arduous and expensive but we saved Otto's leg and he has regained full use of the leg. He now races around the house with his best friend, Earle, while Pickle, another BCR cat, tries to ignore the two ruffians. Cheers to a happy, healthy life Otto!

Active Cat Abuse case in Montgomery County
A man and his girlfriend from No. Wales, Montgomery County were arrested last week for severe abuse to a cat named Harvey. Harvey survived the torture but lost his eye and paw. The man shot Harvey in the eye, the spine, put Harvey’s paw in a bear hold trap and left him outside in the sun during 93 degree temperatures with no food or water for several days!! According to police reports, this man has demonstrated violence previously. Both he, and his girlfriend, need to be punished to the maximum extent of the law and serve prison time. Studies confirm that people who abuse animals will escalate their violence and harm humans.
Please sign the petition circulating and contact the Montgomery County DA, Kevin Steele and District Judge, Suzan Leonard, to express your outrage and condemnation of this violence against a defenseless animal. Cats are easy victims to abusers. If you want to keep your cat safe, keep it indoors. If you see or suspect abuse, stop it. Report it, don’t ignore it. Don’t let Harvey’s extreme abuse escape extreme consequences.

On Wednesday, Aug. 12th, Opie got a clean bill of health from Dr. Yard at Wissahickon Creek Vet Hospital. Dr. Yard also confirmed that his very short tail seems to be the result of healed trauma. Opie can again start eating kibble (yes, toothless cats can eat dry food). Opie has become a playful and loving cat who constantly seeks human interaction and affection. He has just discovered ball and track toys and he has begun to stretch and relax and play like a kitten. He still gets scared when he encounters strangers, but Brenda's lap or her feet are his evening sleep station. He kneads the air while he purrs loudly and enjoys getting deep rubs and pets.
On Saturday, Opie moved into his foster home while he awaits adoption. He will have a private room, a huge cat tree in front of a wall of windows, and a Murphy bed where his foster dad will sleep while Opie adjusts. This cat spent the last six years lonely and outside, with severe eye and mouth pain. Yet Opie had to have been once loved. He definitely has known kindness and is familiar with love; he craves human contact and affection. This makes his story all the sadder. He was a young cat when he showed up in the colony and on the feeder’s steps six years ago. Today he is beginning a new chapter in his life. All he needs now is a forever home and human. Could that be you or someone you know? Let’s help Opie find the loving home that he so deserves.
