The United States recently marked its 250th year, and Philadelphia has been at the center of the celebration. But in a city often called the birthplace of democracy, what histories are being erased as we mark 250 years of the American project?

In the Season 1 finale of Philly Unpacked, host Jordana Rubenstein (Jordana Rubenstein-Edberg) sits down with Paul Davies and Luis F. Carrasco of the The Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial Board to discuss the growing threats to freedom of speech and press freedom, and why local journalism remains essential to holding power to account.

The episode also takes you to the People’s Exposition at the NKCDC, where community organizers and artists are creating space for histories often left out of official narratives while imagining a more just future.
