This Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the people who shape us, inspire us, and remind us where we come from. ❤️

For BalletX dancers Itzkan Dzul Barbosa and Anderson Da Silva, that legacy begins with their parents.

This month, and every month, we celebrate the stories, cultures, traditions, and people who make us who we are.

“For this Hispanic Heritage month I want to honor my mom Rosa Peña. My mother is from Chimbote, Peru. She has played such a huge part in my Hispanic culture and what that means to me and who I am both as an artist and a person. One thing she has always told me is “ Siempre para adelante” which means always moving forward. I think that has resonated with me both inside and outside of the studio especially during harder times. Seeing her bravery of moving to a country with a completely different culture and language and doing it all fearlessly inspires me to always push myself even when it’s scary. She has been my biggest supporter from the beginning of my ballet journey even without knowing much of the art form. I’m so proud and grateful for my Peruvian background and for having the best role model to thank for that.”

“This Hispanic Heritage Month, I honor my father. A Mexican from Campeche who came to the United States at just 19 years old, carrying with him a dream of continuing his professional career in dance.That dream became a life dedicated not only to dance, but to teaching, creating, storytelling, and honoring the culture he holds so deeply within him. In his life, his art, and now his leadership, my father has taught me that dance is so much more than movement. It is a vessel for memory, identity, connection, and love. Through his choreographies inspired by Mayan legends, he has brought the stories of our ancestors into the present. Because of him, I have learned more about where I come from and the power within our heritage. He has taught me that our ancestors still speak to us, that their stories live in our spirit and in the art we choose to create.

My father taught me about inner strength. He taught me that dreams are worth believing
