FAITH & SU***DE SEMINAR ‘26 | Harrisburg, PA

September STRETCHED me in the best possible ways. Not only did I learn what not to do EVER again (being so booked and busy that I lacked wisdom on factoring in times of rest!), I learned to better appreciate how different faith traditions navigate su***de prevention.

It was my first Su***de Awareness Month navigating the intersectionality of faith and su***de prevention, shoulder to shoulder with those who may not share my faith tradition or worldviews.

Hosted by the Su***de Prevention Alliance, the Faith and Su***de Seminar was open to clergy and faith leaders of all faith traditions. All ministers, pastors, priests, rabbis, chaplains, imams, and spiritual providers were welcome.

It was beautifully human and I want more of that.

Thanks to Su***de Prevention Alliance’s founder Govan Anthony Martin for the invitation and Samantha Grannum for the introduction. Abundant blessings and much respect to my fellow co-laborers as well. I met some beautiful, beautiful souls.

Lastly as my fellow Brooklynite Ms. Barbra Streisand sang in Yentl, “The more I live, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I realize the less I know.” 🎼 ‘A Piece of Sky”.

Last night had me all in my feelings…been trying to find the words. I don’t think I’ve attended a BEAM event since ‘21’s Black Healing Remixed Summit (insert dramatic gasp and cue clutching of the pearls) but it felt like running into an old friend and picking up where we left off. Thanks to Yolo Akili , the BEAM community, staff, volunteers, guest panelists and internet cousins; last night was a warm, well curated, safe, inspiring, insightful, informative, witty, gentle, beautiful, powerful, and poignant experience. I left challenged, incensed, heart a bit tender, teary eyed, empowered, reinvigorated, full of joy and reminded of my why all at the same time. Grateful. So very…

I worked way too hard on my little flyer to not post it by 11:59pm tonight and this post is way more sentimental than intended😌, but I came across photos and videos that blessed me tremendously!!

If you’re new here, in addition to my affinity for run-on sentences and bear hugs, I’m a su***de awareness volunteer who works full time in an unrelated field.

I have an OUTSTANDING support network that I thank God for. From my immediate family to countless others - thank you ALL! There are too many people to tag or mention, but just know that I’m extremely grateful. From every prayer, well wish, anonymous donor and encouraging message…thank you. God bless you and be encouraged! Remember you matter too!

“Faith Communities Have an Important Role in Su***de Prevention

In September, the Su***de Prevention Alliance will host a Faith and Su***de Seminar for ministers, clergy, faith leaders, spiritual care providers, and others who serve as trusted listeners within their communities.

Su***de prevention cannot rest solely on the shoulders of mental health professionals. Their expertise, treatment, and clinical care are essential, but many people who are struggling never begin by walking through the door of a therapist’s office or a hospital.

Instead, they may first turn to someone they already know and trust.

The Su***de Prevention Alliance’s Faith and Su***de Seminar is an opportunity to learn together, strengthen our ability to respond, and better understand the important role faith communities can play in su***de prevention, intervention, and postvention.” Govan Anthony Martin Su***de Prevention Alliance
