On Move-In Day in September 2000, Kristine Plourde, BS ’05, met Tom Golden, BSCHE ’05, and the two became part of an instant friend group. Kristine had come from Greater Boston, eager to learn about her new city and build new connections. Tom was a Philly kid who had chosen to live on campus.

Kristine and Tom lost touch after graduation in 2005 but reconnected a few years later at a birthday party with fellow .

What followed was a growing relationship, a scavenger-hunt style proposal on a hiking trail in California, and one of Philadelphia's most memorable weddings: on February 13, 2011, Mayor Michael Nutter married Kristine and Tom aboard the Mural Arts Program “Love Letter Tour” — a chartered Market-Frankford El that drives past 50+ rooftop murals!

After savoring their newlywed years and a good bit of travel, they welcomed a son in 2013 and a daughter in 2016. For several years, they both supervised Drexel co-op students at their respective jobs and would send a special request to Career Development to have their on-campus interview booths next to each other.

Tom earned his MBA while working at Dow Chemical Company. Kristine earned her Masters in Tourism & Hospitality Management and spent years building her career in marketing and events before launching her own consulting firm in 2025.

Kristine and Tom still call Delaware County home — and remain closely connected to the constellation of Drexel couples who continue to be their village.

“Volunteering for the FIFA World Cup 2026 has been one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. Working in Media Operations gave me a behind-the-scenes look at the world's biggest sporting event while connecting with journalists and fans from around the globe. As a proud Drexel alumnus, it's incredibly rewarding to see Philadelphia take center stage this summer, hosting world-class events like the FIFA World Cup and MLB All-Star Week. Being able to contribute to these moments while representing a city I love has made this experience even more meaningful, and I'm excited to see Philadelphia continue to shine on the global stage.”
