It went off without a hitch in rehearsal.👏☺️

Four days of caring for our two grandsons, culminated in this one final very public moment.

“Now boys, Nan and Grandpa have to go up and serve in Church using our music. You get to watch Grandpa on the piano and me sing. You watch from here and don’t move.”

Right.

For those of you who were there here’s what was in my heart as I sang, “I bless your Name. I bless your Name.” When those two little grandsons came up onto the platform - especially the two year-old with his Henley T-shirt, shorts and cowboy boots, 😜- I , with the whole congregation watching, was smiling from ear to ear and singing right to God: “I really do bless your Name. In this very unexpected moment. For this very thing, Lord.”

Both our sons- the one who lives in heaven and the father of these two boys- would have just about split a gut laughing!

36 years ago today, Cam and I said WE. DO.

Of course at that time, we had zero idea of what we were saying we do to. 🫣

We’re asked by friends and perfect strangers alike: what’s the secret to 36 years? Here’s what we do:

💋We do give each other space. I’m an extra-extrovert and Cam is an introvert. You know what that means. I must have plenty of things to enjoy apart from my darling, husband. Even on vacation we spend time doing our own things. I love the city, the beach, shopping, museums and art galleries! 👏👏

Cam not so much. 🫣
So I learned a long time ago to enjoy these things on my own or with other people. And, because he loves me, now and again he’ll join me. (Except for the shopping, but I really don’t want him along for that ride!😜)
Cam loves to exercise - especially his running. And he’s a pro hot-tubber! I get behind each of these pursuits. 😎

💋We do have dates. If Cam calls me for a lunch date, I drop what I can to say yes. We enjoy dinner out especially when he’s been traveling. Call it catch up, but we do it.

💋 We do, by God’s grace try to believe the best and not assume the worst.
Even six years ago (when our son, David was moving through colon cancer), this was much harder, but often Cam and I can look at each other when tension is mounting and say: are we believing the best in this scenario or assuming the worst? And it seems to really help.

💋We do still share common spaces. Example: We share a bathroom with one sink. There is a perfectly beautiful bathroom just a few feet away in the hall where I could move all of my things and have my own space. But I’d rather brush my teeth standing beside him. I’d rather see him getting ready in the morning. I’d rather share the brief morning routine with him. It just feels, well, close.

💋We do forgive each. When wrong each other, we’re eventually able to communicate the hurt apologize and forgive. We ditch the pride to get to this.

We do. We do. We still do.

NOW: back to my Today’s Special! I’m on HSN at 12 -2 with Marla Wynne! Good thing Cam’s in Singapore!
We’ll celebrate together when this day is over, and Cam returns home.
