Hey all you cool cats and kittens, we are LIVE and want to introduce you to all of OUR cool cats and kittens because we are overflowing🐱

Right now, we have cats in offices, conference rooms, and other spaces throughout the shelter because we simply do not have enough designated space for the number of cats coming through our doors😢:

🐾We have seen our dog intake increase in the last few years, but this year our cat intake skyrocketed too, up by 17 percent 🙀
🐾We have increased placement of cats, but not enough to make up for the more than
2,000 additional cats we have take in so far in 2026 compared to 2025.
🐾There has been an increase in surrendered cats of 33%, primarily due to financial or housing instabilities

We want our community to understand what is happening and, most importantly, how you can help. ❤️

🐈Considering surrendering your cat?
If you are struggling to care for your cat or considering surrender, there may be options that can help. The Philly Pet Resource Portal at phillypetresourceportal.org connects Philadelphia pet owners with resources to help them keep their pets, as well as rehoming options that may be an alternative to surrendering to ACCT Philly.

We are also asking for some temporary help with intake. If you are able to safely keep your cat at home a little longer, please consider waiting a couple of weeks before bringing them to ACCT. Our help desk can help with supplies in the meantime if it helps!

We are hopeful that intake will begin to slow as we move out of the summer months and that we can get back to a more manageable capacity.

🐈‍⬛Missing your cat?
Please come and do a walk through to see if we have your cat! We are open daily 10-6pm and make sure to upload their photo on Petco Love Lost too!

🐈See a stray cat?
For community (often referred to as stray) cats, if you are planning to bring a cat in for spay/neuter/release services, we are also asking that you consider waiting a couple of weeks if you are able to safely do so.

Of course, emergencies should not wait. If a cat is sick, injured, in need of immediate help, or you do not have a safe alternative to surrendering your cat, please bring them in. We are beyond capacity but it is not humane or safe to simply let your pet cat go outside or leave them somewhere (it is also illegal).

We know these are big asks and so many We also know that sometimes surrendering a pet is necessary, and we are here when animals need us. But right now, we simply do not have the space, and anything our community can do to slow the flow of cats into the shelter will help us care for the cats already here.

Thank you for helping us make room for the cats who need us. ❤️ 🐱

Other ways you can help:
🐱Make sure your cats are spayed or neutered! Check out low cost spay neuter options here https://acctphilly.org/pet-resource-portal/my-pet-is-sick/

🏡Donate to our Pets fund to help people and pets stay together https://acctphilly.org/helpacct/donate-to-a-fund/

❤️Tag your friends and neighbors to make sure they know about where to go if they are missing their cat, or need resources to help care for them.

Meet Hubble. She's adorable, she's tiny, and, well... she may not always make the best decisions.

Our ACOs were called out for a report of a small kitten who had gotten her head stuck in a wheel hub. And when we say stuck, we mean really stuck.

Hubble was stuck well enough that our field team had to bring her back to ACCT with the wheel hub still attached. Yes, the kitten and the wheel came to the shelter. 🐱🛞

Once they arrived, our amazing medical team got to work. Hubble was safely sedated, and the team was able to successfully remove the wheel hub and free her.

Thankfully, Hubble's adventure had a happy ending. She has since been adopted into a loving home! ❤️

Huge shoutout to our field and medical teams for coming together to help this little girl out of a very unusual predicament. We're very glad Hubble is safe, happy, and hopefully making slightly better decisions these days. 🐱🛞❤️

What happens when a Philly shelter dog gets a day away from the kennel? 09/25/2026

A day out can make a big difference for a shelter dog. 🐾💙

Thank you to WHYY for spending a day with Amaya and showing what a Pupventure is all about!

Pupventures give ACCT Philly dogs a chance to get out of the shelter, decompress, explore Philadelphia, and show off their personalities outside of their kennels. The photos, videos, and report cards from these adventures also help us learn more about each dog and give potential adopters a better idea of who they are.

Amaya got a park adventure, a pup cup, some car-ride time and plenty of treats. Not a bad day! 🥰 grateful to VCA Charities for their support enabling us to launch this program!

Want to give a shelter dog their own adventure? Sign up today and help a dog get out, have some fun, and be seen in a whole new way. https://acctphilly.org/philly-pupventures/

What happens when a Philly shelter dog gets a day away from the kennel? WHYY News intern Jassmyn Nesmith spent a day with Amaya to see how the program gives animals a break and helps potential adopters get to know them.
