Our suite of programs includes Moving Traditions B-Mitzvah Family Education Program for preteens and parents; Teen Groups for teens as they self-identify, with Rosh Hodesh for teen girls, Shevet for teen boys, Tzelem for LGBTQ+ teens, and Kulam for everyone; and the Kol Koleinu Teen Feminist Fellowship. Through the CultureShift initiative, Moving Traditions prepares camp leaders to train counselors to prevent sexual harassment and assault and to promote a culture of safety, respect, and equity at Jewish camp. Since it was established in 2005, Moving Traditions has emboldened more than 28,000 preteens and teens by partnering with more than 500 Jewish institutions across North America.

Led by Shuli Karkowsky, CEO of Moving Traditions, the evening will bring together insights from adolescent development, Jewish texts, and life-cycle rituals to explore questions about who we are trying to become as we develop and age.

Meet Charlotte M., one of Moving Traditions' 2026-27 Meyer Gottesman Kol Koleinu Teen Feminist Fellows!
A junior from California, Charlotte is passionate about neuroscience and psychology, hosts a weekly podcast, It's A Teen's World, and plays varsity lacrosse. She is also involved with the Jewish Affinity Space at her school and is excited to bring her interests and perspective as a 2nd year Teen Leader in Kol Koleinu.
Educating Jewish teens of all genders around healthy boundaries and consent has been a core part of Moving Traditions work for many years.
We do this through a Jewish lens: with clarity around the need to support the development of healthy masculinity, with an understanding of the importance of bystander training and with a strong commitment to feminist approaches to the agency of women and sexual minorities.
In 2020, we hosted the webinar, "Sexual Citizens – Helping Teens Make Mindful Choices," where we spoke with Jennifer S. Hirsch and Shamus Kahn, authors of the landmark study, Sexual Citizens. Although six years have passed, the lessons from this session are as relevant as ever.
Each of us, Jewish parents and educators have a role to play not only in demanding justice after a tragedy but in preventing future sexual assaults by educating teens and talking to them at moments like these and regularly.

This Sukkot, Moving Traditions has created a mindfulness activity to connect the symbols of the holiday to our daily lives and the world around us. Willow represents the lips, used for communication. The imagery of the willow can inspire us to speak into the world the things we wish to see.
