A closer look at THE SHOP at Luster Gallery + Studio ✨
Opening alongside Living Archive, THE SHOP brings together objects, editions, and wearable works that extend the exhibition’s conversations around memory, ancestry, adornment, and Black cultural expression.
From prints and artist-made objects to accessories and more, everything in the shop has been thoughtfully selected to celebrate the ways we carry our stories with us.

Tomorrow is the opening of Living Through Death, an exhibition by Ivette Chaires. This is the first exhibition I’ve curated for the Julia Zagar Residency Program for Women Artists, and it feels like such a meaningful milestone.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Ivette since 2024. Over the past two years, I’ve been able to support her residency in Philadelphia and visit her beautiful home and studio in Puebla, Mexico. Seeing how she was inspired by the Zagar family, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, and the city itself, and then bringing that work back to Philadelphia, has been incredibly rewarding.
This exhibition is deeply special to me, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me as I’ve worked to build this residency program and welcome our very first resident artist.
I hope you’ll join us tomorrow from 5–9 PM for the opening reception. Admission is free, and there’s also a street festival happening at the same time, so it’s the perfect evening to celebrate art, community, and this exciting new chapter.
10/100: A little self-portrait! I was so focused on curating the 10 paintings on the wall that I didn’t even realize I’d painted 10 paintings in just 7 days. Woot woot! On to the next 90!
8/100 & 9/100 are inspired by my favorite drink and favorite meal from our stay at Sanctuary Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. Some of the best travel memories happen around the table, and I wanted to hold onto these two long after we got home ✨
7/100 🎨
I painted my friend Jess for her birthday while we were at Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. 💛 It felt special to slow down, celebrate her, and make something she’ll always have to remember the trip by.
Happy Birthday, Jess! Thanks for always bringing so much joy wherever you go.
5/100 & 6/100 🎨
Two more paintings for my 100 Paintings in 100 Days project.
5/100: My friend Romeo, one of the most easygoing and kind people I know. Being around him always feels effortless, and I’m so grateful for his friendship.
6/100: My wife, Stef. Truly the best person in the world. She fills my life with so much love, support, and joy, and I love her more than words can say. ❤️
I’m loving how this project is becoming a portrait of the people who make my life so full.
4/100 🎨
100 Paintings in 100 Days.
Today I painted my cousin, Asha. She’s truly iconic and one of the most generous, thoughtful, and kind people you’ll ever meet. So grateful to have her in my life. ❤️
Painting 3/100, my niece Lillie Rose 🌹 She was the perfect little model ❤️

My painting, Johanna and Jahné, is currently on view at the Woodmere Art Museum as part of the 83rd Annual Juried Exhibition!
I’m excited to be joining fellow exhibiting artists for a panel discussion this Tuesday, June 30, at 5 PM. We’ll be talking about the exhibition’s theme of Family, our work, and the stories that shape our practices.
Come by ✨

We’re open today from 12–4 PM! Stop by Luster Gallery + Studio at the Crane Arts Building to experience the work of Chanelle René in Dreams, Nightmares & Everything in Between.
Chanelle’s richly layered paintings explore identity, belonging, memory, and emotional presence through bold color, expressive brushwork, and mixed materials. Centering Black cultural narratives and female identity, her work invites viewers to slow down, feel seen, and reconnect with their own stories.
The exhibition catalog is available through the link in our bio for more information on the artwork and artists.
