Situated on 42 acres of beautiful gardens, the Philadelphia Zoo is home to nearly 1,700 animals, many rare and endangered. Gorillas, African lions, Amur tigers, a white rhino, giraffes and more call this oasis home. As Philadelphia’s leading cultural destination the Zoo boasts award-winning exhibits such as Zoo360, KidZooU, Big Cats Falls, McNeil Avian Center, and PECO Primate Reserve. Zoo360 is a one of a kind animal exploration system that allows small primates, great apes, big cats and now meerkats to travel and discover the Zoo’ s campus. KidZooU: Hamilton Family Children’s Zoo & Faris Family Education Center offers displays and hands-on learning along with and rare and unusual goats, sheep, chickens, mini horses and ducks for toddlers to tweens. KidZooU changes the Zoo experience for both animals and guests alike. The outdoor exhibit area includes a 400-foot trail for rare sheep and goats, and a “goat bridge” built above the KidZooU entrance. While the goats scale their own supersize tower, children can climb a parallel structure. Indoors, families will marvel at a world teeming with coral reef fish, colorful parakeets, desert ants, and other extraordinary animals. Interactive exhibits show visitors how saving energy and recycling can help save wildlife. By connecting people with wildlife, the Philadelphia Zoo creates joyful discovery and inspires action for animals and habitats. As the region’s leading family destination, the Zoo welcomed more than 1.2 million visitors last year and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Biiiiiiiiiiiiig stretch from Amur leopard Rafferty 🧡
Amur leopards are a critically endangered cat species that are only found in the Amur River Valley of southern Russia along the China border.
It's Alpaca Day! 🦙To celebrate, join Ziggy on a walk through the Zoo. Walks like these are part of our enrichment program, keeping our animals active and engaged. These walks happen daily at KidZooU at 12:15pm. See who you meet on the path on your next visit!

Motuba working the camera for World Gorilla Day! 🦍
Motuba is a silverback western lowland gorilla and the patriarch of our gorilla family at the Zoo. His job in the troop is to make sure everyone is safe!
It's time for a training session with our sloth bear, Bhalu! 🐻
At Carey Bear Country, you can get *this* close to our bears while our animal care team works with them. Training sessions are part of our enrichment program, keeping our animals active and engaged (and enjoying some honey water, too!)
For World Rhino Day, Tony wanted to show off how he uses his horn! 🎺
Rhino horns are made from keratin, the same material as our hair and fingernails. Rhinos will rub their horns against trees, rocks and logs to shape them.

Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo in North America to breed this rare species. While not technically considered to be endangered, their populations in Africa are decreasing due to habitat loss.
