Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Sunday for another wonderful afternoon of Jazz at Girard College ! It was great to see families, friends, neighbors, and music lovers come together to enjoy live jazz on our historic campus. Your energy and support continue to make this summer series so special.

If you missed this weekend’s performance, don’t worry! Our final Jazz at Girard College concert is happening this Sunday (8/9) from 4:00–6:00 PM. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and friends for one last afternoon of great music and community. We can’t wait to see you there!

Congratulations to our Girard College students on successfully completing the Wills Eye Hospital Internship Program! These students gained valuable hands-on experience, explored careers in healthcare, and developed skills that will serve them well in their future academic and professional journeys.

We were honored to welcome Nasir Dickerson , whose incredible performance on the saxophone and a traditional instrument from his travels in Africa created an unforgettable experience. From getting the crowd on their feet dancing to weaving through the audience as he performed, Nasir brought energy, joy, and connection that filled our historic campus.

Girard College extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of Cannie Shafer, who served our community as Lower School Academic Dean.

Cannie brought the wisdom, warmth, and dedication of a 47-year career in education to Girard. She believed deeply that beginnings matter most and that every child deserves a strong, supported start in their learning journey.

Her care for students, commitment to education, and humanity left a meaningful impact on our community. We are grateful for her service and the legacy she leaves behind.

Please join us in keeping Cannie’s family and loved ones in your thoughts during this time.

We caught up with some of our students in the Girard garden last month, and it was a beautiful reminder of how one idea can grow into something much bigger.

Earlier this year, Girard College proudly participated in the Philly Service Award Program for the very first time, earning second place and a $10,000 award in the Safer, Cleaner, Greener category for the Garnet Goes Green initiative, led by our High School Student Council Executive Team.

Throughout the school year, our students turned ideas into action by packing healthy weekend backpacks for EMS and high school students, making smoothies at basketball games, teaching families how to grow their own food, planting in our campus garden, and setting up hydroponic gardening equipment in the greenhouse.

The goal was simple but impactful: provide consistent access to healthy food while creating sustainable solutions that empower families and strengthen our community.
We’re incredibly proud of our student leaders for proving that service, innovation, and teamwork can make a lasting difference.
