I've stood in the middle of more conflict than I ever expected to.
And here's one of the MOST important things I've learned.
If you can learn to predict and correctly interpret the behaviors that make everyday interactions so challenging, it will genuinely change the way you navigate the difficult personalities in your life. ✨
**Note: Use this in shared spaces and when navigating cultural dialogue. BUT if you are dealing with abusive/ controlling leadership or romantic partners, you are NOT responsible for managing their emotions. Different ballpark**
When you're being mischaracterized, sometimes the strongest response is to remain calm & clear, and refuse to carry someone else's false assumptions. 💡
Every generation inherits a story.
Today, I'm sharing a brief excerpt of mine.
I hope it gives you something meaningful to reflect on as you celebrate.
One of the most freeing things I've learned is that not everyone is willing—or able—to have a civil dialogue. It's important to know what to do when they aren't.
Urgency is often manufactured. Remember: You don't owe the internet...or anyone else...an immediate opinion on every controversial topic. Speak when you choose to and speak from conviction. Never speak from pressure or performance.
I created 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸: 𝗔 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱—𝟱 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗴𝗴𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱

When I was 7 or 8, a neighborhood kid called me the N-word.
Then my dad taught me something that took me decades to fully understand: not every opinion deserves access to your emotions.
Freedom comes when you learn what is yours to carry and what isn't.
In a culture of outrage... be counter-cultural. This is how.✨

Today, work became deeply personal.
Thia afternoon, I led a relational skills staff training at Camp Kon-O-Kwee—the very camp where my brother dedicated over a decade of his life before losing his battle with cancer.
I haven't been back since.
I invited my parents to join me so we could spend some time together at the Memorial Camp Fire built in his honor. It was our first time seeing it in person.
What struck me most was that none of the staff I trained today had ever met my brother. They were simply too young.
Yet it was clear that his presence is still felt here, and I was reminded that the impact he left on this place is still VERY much alive.
Through their warmth, openness, and enthusiasm, I felt closer to my brother today than I have in a very long time. It's funny how those things work. ✨
Thanking God for this full-circle moment.
(It's hard to read the plaque in this photo because of trapped rainwater and the sunlight, so I also attached a clearer version.)
If we're going to be faithful stewards of our time and attention, we need to learn how to engage wisely. Not every invitation to argue deserves our attendance. The goal isn't to win every argument. It's to preserve your energy so that you can stay focused on the work that's been entrusted to you.
